An effort torecallChad Campbell, a member of theDemocratic Party, from his elected position representing District 24 in theArizona House of Representatives was launched on March 13, 2013. The effort to qualify the recall question for the ballot was, however, abandoned short of going to a vote.[1][2]

Timeline

  • March 13: Conservative group Fire Representative Chad Campbell filed recall paperwork with theArizona Secretary of State.
  • July 10: Deadline to collect 23,000 signatures to force a recall election. No signatures were submitted.

Background

Conservative groupFire Representative Chad Campbell targeted Campbell for recall, with one of their supporters citing gun control as a reason for this campaign. "The Second Amendment issues that he has promoted at the state capital are ridiculous and we won't stand for it anymore," saidBob Thomas, a former candidate for theArizona State Senate.[3] Campbell, however, said he believed there was more to the recall movement. "The group behind this is a very radical right group of Tea Party extremists -- very large dollar special interests ... I think they're going after me for promoting the things that we've been trying to do, which again..better schools, creating jobs, fighting for medicaid..all of those things."[1]
