Bryan Hurlburt
Bryan Hurlburt is the currentConnecticut Commissioner of Agriculture. He was appointed by Gov.Ned Lamont (D) in March 2019 to replace former CommissionerSteven Reviczky.
Hurlburt is a formerDemocratic member of theConnecticut House of Representatives, representing District 53 from 2007 to 2013.
On April 16, 2013, Hurlburt announced that he was appointed to become the Farm Service Agency's executive director forConnecticut byPresidentBarack Obama. His resignation from his House seat went into effect at noon on April 19, 2013.[1][2][3]
Hurlburt served on the Tolland Town Council.
Biography
Hurlburt's professional experience includes working as the Clerk of the Public Health Committee for Senator Christopher Murphy and on the Staff of Speaker of the House James Amann/House Majority Leader David Pudlin.
He is a member of the Connecticut Young Democrats and Friends of Tolland Schools.[4]

Hurlburg ran in the2012 election forConnecticut House of Representatives District 53. Hurlburg ran unopposed in the Democratic primary on August 14, 2012. He defeatedChristine Vincent (R) in the general election on November 6, 2012.[5][6][7]

On November 4, 2008, Hurlburt won re-election to theConnecticut House of Representatives from Connecticut's 53rd District, defeating Robert Arute (R). Hurlburt received 7,356 votes in the election while Arute received 5,639 votes.[8] Hurlburt raised $31,820 for his campaign; Arute raised $30,000.[9]

Yankee Institute's Voter Guide
The Yankee Institute, a pro-market think tank, releases itsVoter Guide after each two-year legislative term. Each member of theConnecticut General Assembly receives a score from 0 to 10 based on how he or she voted in ten key votes. The Institute selects key votes which "reveal the differences between those legislators that would harness the power of individual liberty and the market to improve lives, and those that prefer a centrally-planned approach." A legislator with a 10 voted in agreement with the Yankee Institute on all 10 votes, while a legislator with a 0 voted against the Yankee Institute's views or was absent for all 10 votes.[10]

Hurlburt received a score of 1 on theYankee Institute's Voter Guide for 2011-12, tied for the 65th highest score among the 152 scored members of theConnecticut House of Representatives. This score was 2 lower than his score of 3 for the 2009-10 term.[10]
