Bruce Black
Bruce D. Black was afederal judge on theUnited States District Court for the District of New Mexico. He first joined the court in 1995 after being nominated by PresidentBill Clinton. Black served as thechief judge of the court from 2010 until his transition tosenior status on October 1, 2012. Black served as a senior judge from October 1, 2012, until his retirement on January 1, 2017.[1]
Early life and education
Born inDetroit, Michigan, Black graduated from Albion College of Michigan with his bachelor's degree in 1969 and from Michigan Law School with hisJ.D. in 1971.[1]

District of New Mexico
Black was nominated to theUnited States District Court for the District of New Mexico by PresidentBill Clinton on August 10, 1995, to a seat vacated byJuan Burciaga. Black was confirmed on December 22, 1995, on a voice vote of theU.S. Senate and he received his commission onDecember 26, 1995. From 2010-2012, Black served aschief judge of the district court. He elected to takesenior status on October 1, 2012, and served as a senior judge until his retirement on January 1, 2017.[1][2] He was succeeded in this position by JudgeKenneth John Gonzales.
