Campaign themes
2012
Sargent stated the following in a biography submission toBallotpedia:[1]
"I am a constitutional conservative. When I joined the Navy as a Seaman Recruit in 1961 I took an oath of office to support and defend the U.S. Constitution. All of it! When I retired over twenty years later as a Lieutenant Commander that oath did not retire with me! I will live up to that oath for as long as I live.
I am also a Goldwater/Reagan Republican. The first campaign I worked on was for Goldwater in 1964. His policies were for a strong military, support for the free market economy, and individual liberty. Years later Reagan implemented these very policies. I believe in a strong military, letting we, "the people," make our own decisions within the framework of a free market place, and I oppose efforts to stifle the free market economy and our individual freedoms.
I am not a big-money, establishment candidate. I am the only candidate in this race who brings a Congressional background, legislative/executive experience at the Federal, State, and local levels, and who lives in the 14th Congressional District."
