Berle Schiller is afederal judge serving on senior status for theUnited States District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania. He joined the court in 2000 after being nominated by PresidentBill Clinton. He assumed senior status on June 18, 2012.[1]

Early life and education

Born in Brooklyn,New York, Schiller graduated from Bowdoin College with his bachelor's degree in 1965 and obtained hisJ.D. from New York University School of Law in 1968.[1]

Professional career

Schiller was a private practice attorney inPennsylvania from 1968 to 1969 and again from 1972 to 1993. Schiller was Deputy Attorney General for the Pennsylvania Department of Justice in 1971 before serving as Chief Counsel for theFederal Transit Administration from 1994 to 1996. Schiller was appointed by Pennsylvania Governor Tom Ridge to theSuperior Court of Pennsylvania, where he served as an appellate judge from 1996 to 2000.[1]

Schiller was nominated to theUnited States District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania by PresidentBill Clinton on April 11, 2000 to a seat vacated byRobert Gawthrop.Schiller was confirmed by the U.S.Senate on May 24, 2000 on a Senate vote and received commission onJune 2, 2000.[2] He assumed senior status on June 18, 2012.
