Benjamin Nathan Cardozo (1870-1938) was an Associate Justice on theSupreme Court of the United States. He was nominated to the court by PresidentHerbert Hoover (R) in 1932. Prior to joining the Supreme Court, Cardozo was the Chief Justice for theState of New York Court of Appeals. He served on the Supreme Court until his death onJuly 9, 1938.[1]

Cardozo was one of three nominees of President Hoover's confirmed to the Supreme Court. He served duringThe Hughes Court.

Education

Cardozo received his A.B. degree from Columbia University in 1889 and his A.M. degree from Columbia Law School in 1890.[1]

Cardozo was nominated by PresidentHerbert Hoover on February 15, 1932, to replace JusticeOliver Wendell Holmes. Cardozo was confirmed by the Senate on February 24, 1932, and received commission onMarch 2, 1932. He served on this court until his death onJuly 9, 1938.[1] He was succeeded to this post by JusticeFelix Frankfurter.
