Biography
Nguyen attended Georgia State University and founded a nonprofit organization called Athena’s Warehouse, which says its goal is to educate and empower young women. Nguyen was the first Asian American Democratic woman elected to the Georgia General Assembly in 2017. She represented House District 89, the seat formerly held by Stacey Abrams, until 2023.[1]

2017
A special election for the position ofGeorgia House of RepresentativesDistrict 89 was called for November 7, 2017. Because no candidate received more than 50 percent of the vote, a special runoff election between the top-two candidates was held on December 5, 2017. It featured DemocratsBee Nguyen andSachin Varghese. Nguyen won the runoff election with 52 percent of the vote.[2]
The candidate filing deadline was September 15.[3] The candidates who successfully qualified and ran in the November 7 election were DemocratsBee Nguyen,David Abbott,Monique Keane, andSachin Varghese.
The seat became vacant followingStacey Abrams' (D) resignation in August 2017 to focus on her run for governor.
