Bailey Brown (1917-2004) was afederal judge on theUnited States Court of Appeals for the 6th Circuit and theUnited States District Court for the Western District of Tennessee. Brown died on October 6, 2004.

Judicial nominations and appointments

Sixth Circuit

Brown was nominated to the Sixth Circuit by PresidentJimmy Carter on March 15, 1979, to a seat vacated byHarry Phillips; he was confirmed by the Senate on September 25, 1979, and received commissionthe next day. He assumedsenior status onJune 16, 1982, and retired onDecember 31, 1997.[1]

Western District of Tennessee

Brown was nominated to the Western District of Tennessee by PresidentJohn F. Kennedy on August 7, 1961, to a new seat created by 75 Stat. 80; he was confirmed by the Senate on August 21, 1961, and received commissionthat same day. He served aschief judge from 1966 until he advanced to the Sixth Circuit on September 26, 1979.[1] Brown was succeeded in this position byOdell Horton.
