Alfred Barksdale
Alfred Dickinson Barksdale (1892-1972) was afederal judge on theUnited States District Court for the Western District of Virginia.[1]
Barksdale received arecess appointment from PresidentFranklin Delano Roosevelt on December 19, 1939, to a seat vacated byArmistead Dobie; he was nominated on January 11, 1940, confirmed by the Senate on February 1, and received his commission onFebruary 5. He assumedsenior status onAugust 1, 1957, and served in that capacity until his death onAugust 16, 1972.[1] Barksdale was succeeded in this position byRoby Thompson.
