Young defeatedGerald Heikes,Jesse Tingley, andStephen Wright in the Republican primary, while Lindbeck defeatedWilliam Hibler andLynette Hinz to win the Democratic nomination. Jim McDermott defeatedJon Briggs Watts in the Libertarian primary. The primary elections took place on August 16, 2016.[4][5]
