Strom Thurmond (R-S.C.) on June 5, 1986. Norris was confirmed on a voice vote of theU.S. Senate on June 6, 1986, and he received his commission on July 1, 1986. Norris assumedsenior status on July 1, 2001.[1][2] He was succeeded in this position by JudgeDeborah Cook.
