Bacon County is an idyllic destination in South Georgia where Southern hospitality is a mainstay of our lifestyle.

As Georgia’s Blueberry Capital, Bacon County farmers are happy to make sure every household has plenty. More than 11,000 people call Bacon County home in the City of Alma and communities of Rockingham and Sessoms. We are located at the crossroads of US Hwy 1 and Georgia Hwy 32. Our local businesses and people are the heart and soul of our community, in addition to excellent healthcare, education, and places of worship and play.

Bacon County was established in 1914.

Its land area in this wiregrass region of the state is 285 square miles with Alma as the county seat. The courthouse, built in 1919, still serves the community and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The county is named for U.S. Senator Augustus Octavius Bacon who served at the turn of the 20th Century. Bacon County was originally settled by Creek Indians and later by pioneer families from the Carolinas.
