「SETI@home Classic」プロジェクトが2005年12月15日をもって停止されると発表された。 SETI@homeは1999年に開始されたプロジェクトで、SETI（Search of Extraterrestrial Intelligence：地球外文明探査）の解析を世界中のコンピュータに分散処理させようというものだ。その後、いくつも登場する分散コンピューティングプロジェクトの最初の成功例である。 その後、分散コンピューティング文化は共通プラットフォームであるBOINC（Berkeley Open Infrastructure forNetwork Computing）を生み出し、2004年にはSETI@homeもこのプラットフォーム下で動くものに切り替わった。 BOINCへ切り替えるということは、世界中のコンピュータで動いているSETI@homeクライアントも切り替えなけれ
