    Do you have the right COM port selected? Is your Nano a cheap chinese clone that may not even have the bootloader installed (I have had that before...)? Has it ever worked, or is this your first attempt with this board?CommentedSep 10, 2020 at 12:13

For me selecting theATmega328P (Old Bootloader) from theTools -->Processor menu in the Arduino IDE solved the problem.

I had the same problem with an Arduino Micro. When the upload starts, press once the reset button.
