Eileen Adair (1897-1987) and Nana Ticotin (stage name Ticatin, 1922-1993), were pupils of Irma Duncan (née Irma Erich-Grimme, 1897-1977); herself an Isadorable trained by Isadora Duncan (1877-1927), an American dancer of innovative dance movements. Adair was also a dancer and as a teacher trained Ticotin. Both women occasionally performed together while developing their individual dance styles. The Adair and Nana Ticotin collection, dated 1917 to 1993, reflects the influence of Isadora Duncan on Adair, Ticotin and other dancers through clippings, photographs, programs, a scrapbook, and a book entitledThe Technique of Isadora Duncan as Taught by Irma Duncan. Assorted material includes writings by Adair, and flyers about the artist Raymond Duncan (brother of Isadora Duncan).less

The American Association for Health, Physical Education and Recreation (AAHPER) is a service organization whose founding dates back to November 27, 1885 when William Gilbert Anderson, an instructor of physical education at Adelphi Academy, Brooklyn, invited a group of people working in the gymnastic field to come together to discuss their profession. A successor to the American Physical Education Association, it changed it name in 1975 to the American Alliance for Health, Physical Education and Recreation, and, in 1979 to the American Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance (AAHPERD). As of 2003, AAHPERD was an alliance of six national associations, which includes the National Dance Association, and six regional associations. It sponsors conventions, professional development, scholarships, and publications. Headquartered in Reston, VA, it has 26,000 members. The bulk of this collection consists of the official financial and administrative files and reports of theAmerican Association for Health, Physical Education, and Recreation (AAHPER), a division of the Department of the National Education Association in Washington, D.C. These records appear in ditto, mimeo, carbon copies, and xerox reproductions of the originals on file in the AAHPER Archives in Washington, D.C. The material covers the Association's activities from 1931-1968. Of particular interest are: a History of the Dance Section 1930-50 and a card file bibliography by AAHPER and its antecedents with page references to dance material.less

Barbara Arnest (1923-2017) was a writer and the editor ofThe Colorado College Magazine, the college's alumni magazine. Arnest, a long time Colorado Springs resident, worked on an unfinished biography of modern dance pioneer Hanya Holm, who taught at the Colorado College Summer Dance Festival for over forty years. The Barbara Arnest collection of Hanya Holm material dates from 1965 to 1986 and is primarily comprised of Arnest's notes (some of which she took while observing Holm's classes), interview recordings and transcripts, bibliographic research, and a few incomplete drafts. Approximately a dozen programs for Colorado College dance performances and the Colorado Opera Festival are present. The class notes and sound recordings document the content of Holm's classes and her style of teaching. A detailed listing of items is available as an additional resource.less

Depicted are Diablos, Judios, Machetes, Matlachines, Moros, Tecuantes, Tejorones, and Tlacololero dancers participating in Carnavals, Corpus Christi festivals, Dia de Muertos and Holy Week observances, fiestas, and parties in various Mexican States such as Guerrero, Michoacan, Oaxaca, Tlaxcala, and Zacatecas. Correspondence including telegrams, copies of outgoing letters, and some typed transcripts of telegrams and letters, inventories, financial papers, notes and plans, clippings, programs, announcements, and drafts of contracts and reports relating primarily to the early activities of Sergei Diaghilev in bringing Russian ballet and opera to Western Europe. Between 1907 and 1913 Diaghilev collaborated with Astruc regarding the organization of his various artistic enterprises, including the Paris seasons of ballet and opera, negotiations for tours to the United States and South America, summer performances at Deauville in 1912, and a ballet season in Lyons in 1913. Documentation of the first Saison Russe presented by Diaghilev at the Théâtre du Chatelet in Paris in 1909 is particularly thorough and includes inventories of costumes and scenery for the works presented and a confidential report on the season which Astruc sent to Baron Frederiks, Chief Minister of the Russian Imperial Court. Astruc's dealings with Ida Rubinstein and Natasha Trouhanova regarding enterprises undertaken independent of Diaghilev are also documented.less
