This is honestly one of the best pieces of art you can find in Archive. Nina Paley is a creative goddess. When most of the creative work falls into the ... hands of one creator, you can feel the soul flowing through the work. Telling the story of Passover sandwiched between 3 scenes of mother goddesses makes for an incredibly powerful narrative. The animation, the songs, and the sound design are all top notch. The style and use of symbolism with timely use of actual artifacts are all creative genius. I got to know her for her work and philosophy regarding open culture, freedom of speech, and acts of copyright civil dissidence. Her art is proof that the current system of copyright chokes real creativity. She is one of the role models that makes me want to share my work for free. Having waited for a long time to finally see it, I think is a great movie, and so far, the best movie I have seen this year, and I think it is a strong ... contender to be the best movie I will see this year. The quality of the animation, the way to link the stories of the old testament with the music, the deep reflection of what we lost with the cult of the goddess... but must of all, the art of constructing an intelligent reflexion into a funny and entertaining movie. A deep and broad take on monotheism, as well as a touching perspective on the personal relationship between an aged Jewish father and his daughter. This ... Nina Paley movie, like its predecessor Sita Sings the Blues, is based on a sound study of several religions and their symbols, interactions, conflicts, and their consequences to the life of men and women. Paley has clearly a big heart and a patient ear, and a wisdom that is precious to anyone interested in religions. Highly recommended to watch more than once!
