Subject: A monumental work on a monumental work
The first edition was 1867, the second 1875, of this 2-volume work. This consists of all the fragments (known in the 19th century) of Origen's Hexapla, ... a 3rd century parallel collation of Greek versions of the Old Testament books. It is estimated that the Hexapla consisted of over 6,500 pages, and that due to its large size was not copied. The original was in the library of Pamphilus at Caesarea. Certainly there have been numerous advances in Septuagint research since 1875. And various scholars have noted that an updated analysis of the fragments is needed. But Fields' two-volume work still remains the standard source.
