This talk will describe how the Applied Games Group at Microsoft Research Cambridge uses F#, and their use of F# in conjunction with SQL Server 2005 is especially interesting: they use novel compilation techniques to express the primary schema in F# and then use SQL Server as a data slave.

The Casanova language is discussed, which is a game development language which is building with the explicit aim of taking advantage of this relationship between game development and databases, in order to greatly simplify the craft of game-making by introducing automated optimizations and declarative constructs to define a game with less boilerplate code.
