The resulting phylogeny indicates a clear phylogeny between American and Eurasian species, in agreement with recent palaeontological findings that suggest that gene flow between Americans and Eurasians species has been unlikely since the last glaciation.

It was found that these populations are as genetically distant from population collected L. olgensis locus classicus as from other pure larch species and the similarity of the L. Olgensis range populations to hybrid species located in adjacent territories was shown.
Nuclear and cytoplasmic variation within and between Eurasian Larix (Pinaceae) species.
- V. SemerikovM. Lascoux
- 2003
Biology, Environmental Science
Although population differentiation at both nuclear and chloroplast markers was much weaker than at mitochondrial DNA, it nonetheless corroborated the grouping observed with mitochondrial DNA and indicated that populations around Lake Baikal are hybrids between L. gmelinii and L. sibirica.
Recolonization and radiation in Larix (Pinaceae): evidence from nuclear ribosomal DNA paralogues

Biology, Environmental Science
This study suggests that the distribution pattern analysis of members of multiple gene family would be very useful in tracking the evolutionary history of some taxa with recent origin or rapid radiation that cannot be resolved by other molecular markers.
Genetic Diversity and Relationships Among Siberian and Far Eastern Larches Inferred from RAPD Analysis
- M. KozyrenkoE. ArtyukovaG. ReunovaE. A. LevinaY. Zhuravlev
- 2004
Biology, Environmental Science
Analysis of the genetic relationships showed that L. kamtschatica was characterized by highest genetic differentiation from the other larches examined, while larches from Primorskii krai were genetically close to L. sibirica.

Genetic Uniqueness and Genetic Structure of Populations of Picea obovata Ledeb. and Larix sibirica Ledeb. in the Northern and Middle Urals
- A. ZhulanovN. ChertovR. Kalendar
- 2023
Environmental Science, Biology
An innovative approach for selecting populations suitable for reforestation, taking into account their genetic uniqueness using Inter Simple Sequence Repeats (ISSR) markers is presented, finding that the indicators of genetic diversity were significantly higher in L. sibirica compared to P. obovata, while the number of rare alleles was greater in Siberian spruce.
Contrasting microsatellite variation between subalpine and western larch, two closely related species with different distribution patterns
- D. KhasaJ. Jaramillo-CorreaB. JaquishJ. Bousquet
- 2006
Environmental Science, Biology
A similar geographical structure was detected in both species, suggesting at least two genetically distinct glacial populations in each species, suggest Holocene population bottlenecks and fluctuations in effective population size for this species.
Range-wide genetic diversity in natural populations of Larix principis-rupprechtii Mayr.
- Xiao DiXiangxia MengMeng-ben Wang
- 2020
Environmental Science, Biology
Genetic diversity was significantly associated with longitude but not elevation or climatic factors, and the populations with high genetic diversity from each cluster are recommended for future conservation and management of Prince Rupprecht's larch.

Far-eastern populations of Larix species, appear to be genetically close to both L. gmelinii and to L. olgensis, suggesting that they originated through introgressive hybridization between these two species.
Molecular divergence in the eastern Asia– eastern North America disjunct section Rytidospermum of Magnolia (Magnoliaceae)

Biology, Environmental Science
The heterogeneous pattern of divergence in the eastern Asia-eastern North American disjunct section Rytidospermum of Magnolia suggests that the floristic similarity between the two continents was most likely attained by multiple migrations via both Bering and North Atlantic land bridges, or possibly even with involvement of dispersal.

Four methods of cluster analysis based on genetic distances and a discriminant function analysis of the genotypic structure of the populations revealed no consistent patterns of variation relative to geographic location, although one of the clustering procedures showed a weak east–west pattern.

Results of this survey indicated that the species has levels of genic variation comparable with those of other species of woody perennials with extensive transcontinental ranges, and on average, populations of this species were more differentiated and more genetically divergent from one another compared with many randomly mating tree species.
Genetic variation in allozymes of western larch

Recent developments of statistical methods in molecular phylogenetics are reviewed and it is shown that the mathematical foundations of these methods are not well established, but computer simulations and empirical data indicate that currently used methods produce reasonably good phylogenetic trees when a sufficiently large number of nucleotides or amino acids are used.
