The results indicate that the number of different fungal phylotypes associating with M. uniflora of eastern North America is higher than that of western North America but patterns of fungal species abundance might be similar between mycorrhizae from the two locations.

Exploring mycorrhizal diversity in sympatric mycoheterotrophic plants: a comparative study of Monotropastrum humile var. humile and M. humile var. glaberrimum
- Renliang LiuWan-Rou LinPi-Han Wang
- 2024
Environmental Science, Biology
Results show that sympatric Mhh and Mhg are predominantly associated with different fungal genera in Russulaceae, and suggests the possibility of different mycobionts triggered ecological speciation between sympatric species.
Multi-gene analysis of the Russula crown clade (Russulales, Basidiomycota) revealed six new species and Alboflavinae subsect. nov. from Fagaceae forests in China

Biology, Environmental Science
The authors' analyses supported the independence of six new species and supported the claim that two species of R. alboflava, R. burlinghamiae, and possibly R. ballouii have a Eurasian distribution.
Structural plasticity in root-fungal symbioses: diverse interactions lead to improved plant fitness
- K. KarimanS. BarkerM. Tibbett
- 2018
Environmental Science, Biology
The existing literature and most recent findings surrounding structure, functioning, and ecology of root-fungal symbiosis are explored, which highlight the fact that plant fitness can be altered by taxonomically/ecologically diverse fungal symbionts regardless of root colonization and interface specialization.

Chemistry, Biology
A chemical study on the rice fermentation of this fungus led to the isolation and identification of two cage-like polyketides, penidaleodiolide A and its biosynthetic-related congener penidaleodiolide B, which showed a significant inhibitory effect on the action potentials of murine hippocampal basket neurons and decreased the frequency of spontaneous excitatory postsynaptic currents.
