最初に歌詞を見たときに「ハートのエースが出てこない」みたいで、なんだかなあと思った記憶があったのだが、訳すと結局はそんな感じになってしまう困った歌詞。
スティング本人によると「ラブソングではなく」孤高のギャンブラーを描きたかった、とはっきり言っているので、これ以上膨らませるのも難しい。
しかし、サビの部分や「彼女に愛していると伝えたら～」のくだりで、急に三人称から一人称に変わって主人公視点になるのと、美しいギターの音色とで、普通はラブソングにしたくなるよなー。
実際その方がおさまりもよさそう。
個人的には、「神聖な幾何学」「可能性に隠された法則」とかむずかしげなことを言いながら、トランプの絵柄の話ばかりしてる主人公はいったい何なんだという気持ちになった。

そして先日、ShareNewsJapanのグレタさんの母「娘は空気中の二酸化炭素を裸眼で見ることができる」という記事で日本に到着。Frankfurter Allgemeineのツイートが4月29日なので、5か月ほどかかったみたいね。
ちなみに、この日本語記事の元は文中にもあるようにAfrinik.comの“My daughter can see CO2 with the naked eye”という記事よ。

どうしてもグレタ氏の母(ひいてはグレタ氏本人)を「バカな考えを持っているヤベー奴」認定したいというのなら止めはしないけれど、それならもっと別アプローチでやった方がまだしも分があると思うわよ。
