■Why I Chose a Career in Clinical Research

Lately,I’ve been thinking a lot about how unpredictablelifepaths canbe. A few years ago, I had noidea what “clinical research” even meant.Like many people, Iassumed healthcare careers were limited todoctors or nurses. But then I came acrossthe field of clinical research and realized how much happens behind the scenes to bring new medicines, vaccines, and therapies tolife.

What struck methe mostis how critical accuracy and ethics are in thisfield. Every detail matters, and behind everytrial, there are countless professionals ensuring safety andcompliance.Itmade me reflect: how many of us really understand the effort that goes into the medicines wetake so casually?

I decided to pursue training and build a career in this space.It’s not an easypath—there are regulations, long hours of study, and the constantneed to keep up with global standards. ButI’ve also learned that thisis a career whereyour workhas a directimpacton people’s lives, even ifyourname never appears in thespotlight.

Sometimes I wonder if others alsostrugglewith the same doubts I had when startingout.Isit worth the effort?Will there be opportunities? From my experience,yes—this industryis growing, andwith the right guidance and certification, the opportunities are there.

I guess I’m writing this entryas a smallreflection andmaybe encouragement for anyone feelinglost in their career. Sometimes thepathyou’ve never considered can turn intothe most meaningfulone.

子供を男子だけ女子だけで集めて大人のいない所で生活させたらどうなるか。

これ男女の質の違いを反映してて面白いんだよな。

男子：一日で家の中をメチャクチャにした後は上下の序列を作って家事はせずスナックだけ食べながら家の外で動物を狩ろうとしたところで大人に止められる。

女子：全員同じ部屋で寝泊まりすることになり、ちゃんとした料理を持ち回りで作り家事の当番を決め室内を飾り始めるが、そのうちイジメと派閥と仲違いが発生して寝る場所はわかれ二人の子が実験から離脱。

というツイートが流れてきたが、女子の話がかなり改変されている。

この実験で寝る場所が別れ、いじめと派閥争いが起きたのは男子だし、大人から止められたのは狩りではなくハリネズミ虐待だ。

多分これらは男らしくないと思ったから女子達に押し付けたのだろうが、何でわざわざ圧倒的に女子のほうが良い結果を残した実験結果を歪曲してまでそんなツイートをするのだろう。

動画を見たら男子達はかなり少年らしい愚かさ乱暴さ残酷さで行動をしていて、他の子と同調しイキリ散らかし、破壊活動やバカをやらないと、舐められて虐められる空気が作り上げられているのがわかるのに。

男子のそういった同調圧力の強さは男も経験があるだろうに、何でこれは男らしくないから女子に押し付けようとなるのだろう。

似たような話で、映画「先生を流産させる会」がある、これは実在の事件の映画化を押し出して売りにした作品だが、実際は男子十数人が先生を流産させる会を結成して、誰が流産させるか競っていたのを女子達が告発して止めたのだが、内藤瑛亮監督が男子ではリアリティが無いからと女子生徒たちが犯人に改変した作品だ。

こういう陰湿で愚かな行為は女子がやるはずだという思いがあるのだろうが、何でフィクションで1から作らず実際にあったことを捻じ曲げようとするのだろう、こういうのをたまに見かけるが謎すぎる。

近年の海外ファンタジー（洋書）その２

海外ファンタジーに関する情報収集なんだけど、それ系の海外のブログを見るか

日本でも翻訳が出ている（出てない？）マークローレンス（BrokenEmpireとか。個人的にはBook of the Ancestorシリーズの方が好き）が主催している（？）らしいSPFBOという賞を探してみると自費出版系の作品を見つけやすい。

あと、よくよく考えたらイマイチの作品を紹介しても意味がないかもしれない。

ものすごく有名な作品（ロビンホブのアレとか）は入れてないです。

【傑作！】

The Libraryat MountChar（Scott Hawkins）

そもそも、なぜこんなまとめを書こうと思ったのか、いま思い出した。この本を紹介したかったのでした！！

Fatherと呼ばれる人物に集められた孤児たちは、彼の秘密の力を授けられる。

そのFatherが行方不明になり、Fatherの秘密が隠されたLibraryを狙って……

みたいな、あらすじとかどうでもいいから読んで。

主人公のCarolynは全ての言語、動物の言葉も含めて理解できる。

初っ端で出てくる登場人物の一人のDavidは血液と髪の毛を固めたヘルメットをかぶりチュチュを履いている殺し屋。

ダークだけど、最終的には昇華して終わる感じ。

ちなみに作者名で検索するとLinuxがどうのこうのとかApacheがみたいな本が出てくるけど、同一人物らしい。

【おすすめ】

TheFire Sacramentsシリーズ

「The Chathrand Voyage」シリーズの作者 Robert V.S. Redickの新シリーズ。まだ二冊しか出てない。しかし読んで損はしない。

一巻目の「MasterAssassins」はカバーのエピックファンタジーっぽさもあって、ちょっとD&Dや剣と魔法ものと勘違いしちゃうんだけど、読んでみると全然違う。

内容には触れないけど、「殺し屋に間違われた二人組の逃走劇」と聞くと面白そうでしょ？

Chronicle of the Unhewn Throneシリーズ（Brian Staveley）

おすすめに入れるべきかはちょっと悩んだ。

なぜなら、とんでもなく嫌な女（皇帝の子供３人のひとり）が登場して、主人公ヅラをするからだ。ちなみに、３人とも間違った決断ばかりします。

【まあ、そこそこ】

Lightbringerシリーズ（Brent Weeks：翻訳でてる？）

この人の「NightAngel」三部作は大好きだけど、これはいまひとつ入り込めなかった。最初からスケール大きすぎて、ちょっとリアリティを感じなかったせいかもしれない。

でも完全に好みの問題です。

Wolf of the Northシリーズ（Duncan M.Hamilton）

「Ithas beengenerations since the Northlands have seen ahero worthy of thetitle. Many havemade the claim, but few have lived to defendit. Timid, weak, and bullied, Wulfricisas unlikely a candidateas there couldbe. 」

よく考えたらComing OfAgeが好きなようだ。

TheBrokenEarthシリーズ（N.K. Jemisin）

まだ２巻までしか読んでなかった。

とても文章が達者な人だと思う。その分一生懸命読む必要があるような。

独特な世界観。読んでて辛くなるかもしれないので好き嫌いが分かれと思う。

ここ２０年くらいは、かなり捻った世界観の小説が増えているようで嬉しい。

Chronicles of the BlackGateシリーズ（PhilTucker）

いちおう３冊で一通りの話は終わってるはずだけど、いま見たら続きが出ていた。

よくある光と闇の対決。

King's Dark Tidingsシリーズ（Kel Kade：未完結）

「暇があればどうぞ」にするか悩んだんだけど、こっちにした。

なぜなら設定はつまらなそうなのに、読んでみたらなぜか楽しい、そんな作品なので。

ちなみに、設定は「完璧なスーパーマンとして孤立した世界で育てられた男が、外の世界で大活躍する」というお話。案の定、この完璧な男は女性の気持ちが全くわからないという設定。とにかく女性関係以外は全て完璧なので、戦いで負けることはなく、むしろワンパンマン的な圧勝しかしない。その上、殺し屋ギルトや盗賊ギルトの長に簡単になってしまったりるする。すごいぞ、こいつ！

SolomonCreedシリーズ（Simon Toyne）

ファンタジーに入れていいんだろうか？現代物でミステリーなんだけどファンタジー要素もあり。

とある田舎町で人々が埋葬のため墓地に集まっていた。その近くで飛行機が墜落して消防隊が現場に向かうんだけど、途中で一人の男とすれ違う。男は記憶をなくしていた。

男は、さっき埋めたばかりの人間を助けるためにきた、らしい。

みたいな話。

 TheRavenTower（SF「叛逆航路」で有名なアンレッキー）

達者だわ、が感想。

色々書くとネタバレになるけど、語り手は岩で、終始「Youは」って二人称で語りかける。ジャニーさんかな。小粒だけどなかなか。

【暇があれば、どうぞ】

Six ofCrowsシリーズ（作者の写真がエキセントリックなことで有名なLeigh Bardugo）

とても評判の高いシリーズ。でも一巻でやめた。なんだかリアリティがないのである。やはり、ジュブナイルなのかな。

くだらない内容でもWill Wightの作品は楽しく読めるんだけど、何が違うんだろうね。

The DemonCycleシリーズ（Peter V.Brett）

翻訳されていると思うので、入れなくていいのかもしれないけど読んだので入れた。

一巻はまあまあだと思う。２巻以降は耐えられなくなる。それが何かもう忘れてしまった。頑張って４巻まで読んだけど。徒労感だけが残った。

これも割と古き良き光と闇の戦い。

The Appallows toscanany types of document to high qualityPDF orJPEG; to save and storeanyscan copies of documentsonyourmobile devices; toshareyourscansvia email; uploadscanned documents to cloud serviceslikebox,Evernote orGoogle Drive (see the full performance liston the App’s pageonitunes.apple.com).All documents shall be stored locallyonyour device and shall never be sent toany third-party unlessyou export them to other apps or devicesby means of the App.

The Appis intendedonly foryour personal non-commercial use.You shall use the Apponly for the purposes, mentioned above.

V. PRIVACY POLICY

Your privacyis very important to us. 13数理モデルは演繹法の活用産物である。演繹法は帰納法やアブダクションで補完するのが、学問の基本であり、臨床医学の常識である。演繹法的にどんなに正しく見えても実はそれは違っていた、ということはこの業界ではよくあることなのだ。ヘーゲルやマルクスのような巨大な知性でも演繹法オンリーでは間違うのである。

14モデルを使うな、といっているのでは決してない。ぼく自身、モデルを用いて論文を書く。しかし、モデルは無謬ではなく、そこには前提である仮定があり、仮定はしばしば間違っている。グラム染色を活用するとは、グラム染色にできないこと、分からないことを知悉していることであり、グラム染色万能論者にグラム染色は使えない。同じことだ。英国でも数理モデルは活用されているが、だからこそ英国人はその結語には非常に懐疑的で、常に反論、異論が起きている。健全で科学的な態度である。
