Kubo Tsuguyuki is a character designer and animation director. He was born in Taipei, Taiwan on April 8, 1942 and repatriated to his mother's hometown of Kagoshima after World War II in April of 1946.

After graduating from high school at the recommendation of his father who was against him making a living as an artist, he joinedTatsunoko Production in 1964 and worked as an in-between animator on the company's first production,Uchuu Ace. Thanks to his great skill, Kubo was able to move up to the position of key animator in only half a year.

After Uchuu Ace's production wrapped up in 1966 he was put in charge of animating the opening forMach Go Go Go before leaving Tatsunoko to establish his own company, Studio Bees. His representative works from this era includeRainbow Sentai Robin andTiger Mask.

In the early 1970s Kubo joinedTop Craft where he was involved with Rankin/Bass productions includingThe Hobbit andThe Last Unicorn and served on the company's board of directors. After Top Craft was reorganized intoStudio Ghibli in 1985 he joined Pacific Animation Corporation (PAC) and continued contributing to Rankin/Bass works. He continued to work with PAC in the early 1990s after it was acquired by Walt Disney and became Walt Disney Animation Japan.

Kubo is currently affiliated withStudio Pierrot and continues to work on the front lines of TV anime to this day. His brother is fellow animatorKubo Hidemi.
