Quite late, but: everyone in my family read it in Chinese (surprise!), and I myself watched a few Hong Kong live action TV and movie adaptations of it, so can't comment on any translations.

Anyone here ever read an English translation of RoTK? I want to pick one up, but you know how it is, there are several and I don't have a clue about which is best. This isn't anime; I can't exactly compare them directly.

The translations I have available are the Brewitt-Taylor one and the Yu Sumei one. Brewitt-Taylor is a really old translation, with its original edition already in the public domain; the Yu Sumei work is probably the newest around. I know that the Moss Roberts translation is supposed to supersede the Brewitt-Taylor one, but it's unfortunately not available to me.

CDB, would someone in your family be in the know about this, maybe?

Well, the "Three Kingdoms" tag was missing, this is now added.

What it the best anime adaption of the Romance of the Three Kingdom ever made?

post #18 bymecharobot on 08.01.2014 03:57

Taoist sorcery and fortunetelling is boring now? Hard work and effort is for ungifted plebs, not wizards.

Zhuge Liang is just a Deus ex Machina mixed with Keikaku doori - boring and straightforward.
Now Zhou Yu actually worked hard to realize his plans and Zhang Liao was a man amongst men.

post #16 bymecharobot on 28.12.2013 00:24

And Zhuge Liang is Merlin. That's all.

post #15 byRedgraveSiege on 28.12.2013 00:12

Cao Cao is boss.

That's all.

Well Ikkitousen is very loosely based on ROTK, to the point that i wouldn't have made a connection to the novel by myself.

post #13 byTaumaturgos on 10.04.2010 18:01

You don't like it I presume

All right, I'll add them. Not Ikkitousen though.

post #11 bykasumi92 on 09.04.2010 21:58

Well there's also Koutetsu Sangokushi (a very loose shounen ai adaptation with Lu Xun as the main protagonist), and three Sangokushi movies that were never subbed in any language I think.

post #10 byTaumaturgos on 09.04.2010 20:42

Well, both are related to RottK on similar level to Koihime Musou. Tho in Ikkitousen, as we know, main roles grabbed descendants of warring states characters and in Ryofuko we got the "actual" characters that leaped through time and space and in the effect became lolis, lol.

Anyway, I wouldn't mind those, but it's up to you.

Well I don't really feel like adding Ikkitousen, and it's the first time I've heard about that other series.

Question: shouldn'tIkkitousen (and its sequels) andYawaraka Sangokushi Tsukisase!! Ryofuko-chan be related anime for this club?

Already added

post #6 byTaumaturgos on 09.04.2010 13:03

Looks like another RotTK anime is being made, a7434, tho with low interest of last proper rottk based anime, which was souten kouro, in fansubbing circles I really wonder if this one even gets started being translated ...
