TagsangstA feeling of general discomfort and uneasiness is present due to either trivial or more serious reasons, often accompanied by depression.Warning: may contain copious amounts of brooding and sighing.Etymology: "Angst" is a German word meaning fear or anxiety.,coming of ageIn the strict sense the Coming of age describes a young person`s transition from adolescence to adulthood. In anime the term is used in a more general sense where the protagonists have to face a challenge, make an important decision in their life, take on responsibility, or learn a lesson, and by overcoming these obstacles they reach a higher level of maturity.,novelA novel is a relatively long work of narrative fiction, normally written in prose form, and which is typically published as a book. Manga, comics, or visual novels do not fit this description and are not considered novels; including a small number of illustrations, however, is still permissible, which means that light novels are considered novels.,school lifeSince a large part of the anime audience still takes part in school life or is visiting college, it is only natural to choose a setting the audience can identify with, be it elementary, middle, or high school. For the older viewers a college setting with more mature real-life problems is appropriate. And since clubs take up so much time in the lives of students, these are obviously also important.,seinenSeinen, literally "young man", is one of the main demographic classifications applied to manga, and, by extension, to anime, especially manga-based ones. As the name implies, seinen works are marketed primarily to an audience of young men; the age range commonly understood to be the target of such works goes roughly from 17 to somewhere in the 40s. -[similar]

Those three episodes are the prequel to the movie, each three episodes present one of the three girls of the anime, basic to understand better the movie, these three oav are something sweet/sour depending on the girls presented, as for the OAVs i warmly reccomend this one

This is one of the weirdest anime I have seen in a while. it started off quite gentle. The world just seems like a better place, but eating books, really?
Second episode came as such a shock, no way could I have guessed the turn of events by the cover or the name, and then suddenly episode 3 we are back in the strange world of love.

The structure of the ova was definitely a down point, but I guess it's difficult to illustrate so much in just 3 episodes. The key is it draws your attention and you want to find out more. Its quite a nice watch after a busy week of exams...

I'm surprised to see this OVA a little bit underrated here because for me it is one of the gems of the last years. The usual setting of kids-meeting-at-school is absent of many of the usual flaws of this kind of anime. Instead in most of the episodes you get some believable quirks and emotions as well as unique and bold drama that is thought-out and gripping. But be sure to watch this OVA before the movie.

Approval:-
The series collectively known as Bungaku Shoujo: Memoire represents three OVAs that serve as companion material to the Bungaku Shoujo movie. If you have seen the movie, you should see the OVAs. If you watch the OVAs without the movie, then you are missing out because there is little overlap between the works and a whole lot of material missing in one from the other.

Things that consistently disappoint me in anime: Movies that rehash a story and cheese. I have seen enough series to know when I am getting my chain yanked and I have gotten to that stage where I do not appreciate it. But genuine emotion, much like genuine humor, is built up only with difficulty, doggedness, and an intense focus. Of the three Bungaku Shoujo OVAs, only one demonstrates genuine emotion. Which one of the three, I'll leave blank for the sake of the watchings.

I watched the movie before I saw the OVAs and without that background material I found it a decent story with a weak ending. However, I was struck by characters who appeared with little to no introduction and referenced events left unsaid. Perhaps it is in the heart of artistic interest that we as viewers do not need to know everything, and I appreciate that, but there comes a threshold where you just have to know why good golly this so and so has a broken leg and why this one and that one are fighting. There are many times as I watch this that I go, "Oh, that explains it!"

For the most part, their status as companionship material relegates the OVAs to a semi-crippled status. By themselves, their viewpoints are incomplete because they are missing the movie's material and with one exception this weakens their viewing. The exception, of course, belongs to the OVA dedicated to the movie's most fascinating character, who perhaps uncoincidentally is voiced by its biggest star. Her OVA is thrilling, horrifying, heart-breaking, and sonorously emotional. Characters are built on their flaws, and in this exceptional episode, there are indeed flaws galore.

As the pioneering review of this series, I take it upon myself to explain and grade each of the six categories.

Art and Animation > The backgrounds and settings are like many other series - in a school. There is hopeless little chance for variation here, and the art direction shows. There is an old-time feel to it. Very Da Capo and To Heart, with watercolor splashes here and there. The movie did a great job of illustrating heavy moods and atmospheres. Because the story content does not call for it.

Sound > I did not enjoy the background music. It for the most part is utilitarian and does not stand out. The VAs do a praise-worthy job. I highly recommend Hirano and Mizuki, who have yet to deliver bad work in anything they have done.

Story > Incomplete in two episodes but raised by one great episode. See above.

Character > See above.

Value > The main attraction is getting the background to the movie. By itself, I am hardpressed to recommend it.

Enjoyment > I sure enjoyed that feeling of "Oh this explains that bit in the movie!" and I sure got a lot of it.
