The original series can be very long winded and slow paced. This summary movie just wraps everything up. Movie's pace is very smooth. It made me understand what the series is all about. I don't feel lost or missing important plot components. Overall very nicely executed.

i never watched the original series it just felt way too dated these summaries on the other hand with their updated audio tracks i found are much easier to get into and i do recommend them as an alternative to the series so far i don't feel lost in the plot as most summaries often do.

Although not the very first Gundam ever created, it can be still considered as the mother of all Gundams, which are the most famous mecha series out there.
Since the 43 episode long Mobile Suit Gundam TV series didn't had the success the creators had hoped for, The Movie Trilogy was made which is the shortened version of the tv series and it was a real hit.
The animation and sound quality in the early 80's wasnt the best compared to todays standards which is quite natural, but the combat scenes were made pretty well.
The strong point of this anime is the complex story full of intrigues between all the main characters.
The exceptional abilities of the Newtypes add that extra value to the battles which finally turn out as a full scale war. The characters must not only fight their enemies but also their inner secrets and emotions that may sometimes be even more dangerous than heavily armed opponents.

If not for the fact that this anime is truly worth seeing, it should most certainly be watched for being the starting point of all the Gundam series that are being created even today, 22 years after The Movie Trilogy's birth.
