Solid artsy poetic shoujo served with 1st class animation. Far from the typical mahou shoujo formula affair, it's more a borderline philosophic reflexion about fate, life and enconter. Atmospheric, melancholic, nostalgic and absolutly recommended!

Firstly, prior knowledge about the main series is unnecessary to watch this OVA.
The story revolves around the protagonist waiting on a bridge to meet a boy again, because of an old saying. However, the important part are the little moments from different people crossing the bridge while the protagonist was waiting. Although, none of them is really outstanding.
The most notable aspect is the subtle presentation, and how it's well-managed, not becoming boring or too long. Furthermore, it compresses very well different slices of lifes into a single episode and connects them all into a poetic story with a melancholic conclusion.
Art and soundtrack are not exceptional, but they are sufficiently well-executed to look like a high quality work, as most old OVAs.
Overall, it’s a lovely little watch that leaves a lasting impression.

Magical girl goes Arthouse. :P
Nah, not really,Minky Momo in the Bridge over Dreams is far too cute for an arthouse movie. But I seriously wonder who this production was aimed at. Kids? It's mainly about Minky Momo watching random people while standing on a bridge: much too boring. Lolicons maybe? There isn't any fanservicehere! I really don't know what the producers were thinking...
Actually you could say it's quite a daring experiment - the plot is more about philosophy than anything else, with the main question being "How does my mere presence influence the people around me?". Quite a bold approach for a well-established franchise that's famous for being cute, wacky kid's stuff.
Of course they kept the cotton candy optic of the original series completely intact. And IMO that's a combination that just doesn't fit. It just distracted me and I kinda expected something really zany to happen any minute.
It never did, and I found myself to be bored most of the time, but I giveThe Bridge over Dreams extra credit for meaning well and for having the courage of being different.
