Dry, but a new attempt.
Since this is an attempt to make success from a popular manga, I'll be less harsh on it than I could be.Good Morning Call isn't exactly a new thing, but hell - it could be good if the story is pursued.
Average story and characters, but at least they are trying something...
Yoshikawa Nao and Uehara Hisashi are living together in an apartment. With the rustling of love in the air, what will happen with these two?
And that's all that can make sense at the beginning. This OVA tries to wrap up the entire romantic focus in a brief 19 minutes, and it crashes in burns at that intention. However, the story takes a different approach, as there is less focus on possible ecchi moments, and more focus on the two relating to one another. If this were to continue, then I will say that the story could be complete; but it remains one-dimensional with its current time frame.
The characters remind me too much ofKare Kano in a way, but they are still recognizably different...this could also be changed with an increase on the length of the story. (If you haven't noticed, I would REALLY like to see more of this.) Also, there is a little attempt at comedy, but it isn't extremely funny, as there is quite a bit more drama in this OVA.
Animation, music - average
Well the animation attempts a fewGAINAX moments, and the girls definitely look like high-school girls, so the level of ecchi possible is too low. As for the music, I didn't find anything intresting to keep. Theseiyuu seemed pretty good (except for the one short, fat girlfriend that sounded too dry.)
A lot of anime gets adopted from manga, and quite a few of them turn out to be rather good (such asChobits.) And yet, I have feeling that I would recommend to those interested to read the manga. As Gambit says, "the book is better." And inGood Morning Call's case, that may be it. The enjoyment is high, since it is somewhat easy to entertain me, and it interested me enough to go and look for the manga.
Oh yeah, the fansub I got blows, along with the encode, so if you want high quality, I doubt there will be anything soon.
For the otakus or romantic addicts, though, pick it up for as a show to watch before bed or to just add another anime to your collection. Nothing too new.
