Ironsworn has a very specific reward structure that empowers characters when they follow through on their promises. Delve expands that to include reflecting on failures, but keeps the focus firmly on swearing and fulfilling vows. So as a person with a habit of mucking about in the rewards/abilities of games, what was I supposed to do when I was adapting Ironsworn to fit a setting that explicitly has powerups built into the world? This month I roll up my sleeves, take a long hard look at how Ironsworn lets characters grow stronger— then break everything.
