"I recommend Forester to everyone literate I know." |
A series of stories of a British member of the Royal Navy during the Napoleonic Wars. Written by C.S. Forester.
Hornblower goes from midshipman to admiral, and from commoner to lord, over the course of the stories, which were written out of chronological order. They lack the exquisitely detailed sailing lore of theAubrey-Maturin series, which may make them more accessible to the average reader.
The character of Horatio Hornblower was inspired by the career of real-life Thomas Cochrane.
