This page contains official communication and statements from the Ferdium Team. Our goal is to be as transparent as possible by publishing here.

Ferdi is a hard-fork of Franz, andFerdium is a hard-fork of Ferdi. We started the Ferdium project after the major issues that Ferdi experienced from the project owner (which was one person). Former Ferdi contributors got offended and disrespected.The Ferdi social accounts, GitHub organization and domains were also taken down multiple times by the owner. They also (unilaterally) made a decision to monetize Ferdi - which was not in line with the rest of the contributors.

On the 11th of June 2022 the owner of the Ferdi project announced on Twitter: "There will be no further updates to Ferdi. Thanks to everyone for the wild ride!".

First of all: nobody owns this project. The project is driven by all maintainers, contributors and users. In order to kick off this hard-fork we have decided to put the "ownership" under a Dutch company calledHybula B.V, which will act as a trusteeship.

Hybula B.V. currently has full access to the complete project, including domains, hosting, Discord server, and even most repositories. This has been decided to prevent one person having access to the complete project and causing potential harm to the project in the future (see what happened with Ferdi).

Please remember that Ferdium is a community-driven project, and thatHybula B.V. has no executive say or power to influence the project. It has an advising role and any advice is discussed with the project maintainers in all cases.Therefore, we are also happy to state that Ferdium is free software, andit will always be free.
