Ahead of the Pixel 10 series launch next week, Google’s Pixel 9 Pro Fold is currently selling for just $1,099 in what is a stellar deal for a foldable phone.

I’ve carried a Pixel as my daily smartphone for years now because, often, it just provides the experience I want the most. That said, I’ve always had a soft spot for Samsung’s foldables, and the Galaxy Z Fold 7 was finally enough to replace my Pixel as my main smartphone thanks to its drastically upgraded hardware and ever-improving software. But there’s one broken Android feature that continues to irk me.

In just a few short weeks, Google will take the stage in New York to finally unveil the Pixel 10 series. Everything we’ve seen about these devices so far — and we’ve seen plenty — suggests a lineup that is, in some ways, frustratingly familiar to last year’s devices. There’s nothing wrong with a “tock” year, of course, where Google can catch its breath after last year’s massive leap in both presentation and build quality. But unlike with the standard Pixel 10, this year’s foldable might end up take the brunt of the blowback from this decision.

Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 7 is an impressive jump for the company’s book-style foldable, delivering a needed upgrade and some major improvements. But if we’re looking to crown the biggest upgrade in foldable history, I think Google’s Pixel 9 Pro Fold still earns that title.

The Pixel 9 Pro Fold is a stunning piece of hardware, but it has a few downsides compared to Google’s other new phones, including its charging speed, which is the slowest of the bunch.
