The Google Assistantwind down on mobile continues with Gboard rebranding “Assistant voice typing” on the Pixel to just “Advanced features.”

Going to Gboard Settings > Voice typing on Pixel reveals that the “Assistant voice typing” on/off toggle has been renamed to just “Advanced features.”

  • Assistant voice typing: “Use Google Assistant to type and edit messages, add emoji, and more”
  • Advanced features: “Use advanced voice commands to edit text, add emojis, and more”

We first spotted this change last August, but it now looks to be more widely rolling out (version 15.2), with Google also updating a support article (“Use advanced voice typing features” vs. “Use Google Assistant to type with your voice”) with the new branding.

In terms of functionality, there’s no change and the four-color animation remains the same. That said, the Pixel’s Proofread has had a Gemini-esque glow (and color palette) for the “Fix it” suggestion chipsince last year.

Assistant voice typing in Gboard wasintroduced in 2021 with the Pixel 6. It works on-device and is exclusive to Pixel devices. Users can dictate and make edits, as well as send, with just their voice.

Google did introduce avoice typing toolbar for all Android devices in March. Originally introduced on tablets the year before, it shrinks the keyboard into a floating pill that you can dock at the bottom or left/right of your screen.
