Art and culture law5 seems to be covering a number of relatively unrelated things which are already covered in other places, and only has 4 other language versions. Compared to other articles in this section, it also has fewer pageviews, around 10 per day. I thinkLegal professional privilege is more important. It has about 30 pageviews per day and 11 other language versions. I do see thatAttorney–client privilege has 3 times as many pageviews, but that article is restricted to the USA.EchoVanguardZ (talk)00:26, 10 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
From the article, "The terms "skilled worker," "craftsman," "artisan," and "tradesman" were used in senses that overlap". The article doesn't have many interwikis, nor does it make a well argued (referenced) case why it is not a synonym of the above. I'll support adding a better-known (IMHO) term "artisan" below (8 vs 42 interwikis). --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here02:58, 15 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Above,Incense5 was nominated. This surprised me as incense is extremely important across cultures, and in multiple religions. I suspect this is Western bias, specifically American bias, because we don't tend to use incense quite as much as other cultures. I have gone through and found a few key pages related to incense that have not been included, and think they should be added.

An aromatic resin used in incense and perfumes. Frankincense has been traded on the Somali and Arabian Peninsula for more than 5,000 years. Notable in Christianity as one of the gifts given to Jesus byBiblical Magi5

From the lede "a gum-resin extracted from a few small, thorny tree species of the Commiphora genus, belonging to the Burseraceae family. Myrrh resin has been used throughout history in medicine, perfumery, and incenses." Notable in Christianity as one of the gifts given to Jesus byBiblical Magi5

From the lede "unlike many other aromatic woods, they retain their fragrance for decades. Sandalwood oil is extracted from the woods. Sandalwood is often cited as one of the most expensive woods in the world. Both the wood and the oil produce a distinctive fragrance that has been highly valued for centuries. Consequently, some species of these slow-growing trees have suffered over-harvesting in the past."

From the lede "an incense cone burned at Christmas time in Germany and in the Czech Republic in order to create pleasant scents around the house." Important example of European incense tradition.
Doesn't seem all that important. I do note, however, that during December the article gets 135 views per day on the German Wikipedia (but only 25 per day on the English Wikipedia).172.56.170.142 (talk)20:02, 11 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]
From the lede "a metal incense burner suspended from chains, in which incense is burned during worship services. It is used in Christian churches, including those of the Roman Catholic, Eastern Orthodox, Assyrian Church of the East, Oriental Orthodox, Lutheran and Old Catholic denominations, as well as in some Continental Reformed, Presbyterian, Methodist and Anglican churches (with its use almost universal amongst Anglican churches of Anglo Catholic churchmanship)."
I know the term, but it is far from vital - they are rarely seen in Catholic services these days, and surely not very often in the Protestant ones.Johnbod (talk)17:41, 15 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]
This certainly could be vital, but in my opinion it depends how the information is presented. There's no requirement to have an article that covers art for the entirety of Asia. I won't support this unless a somewhat comprehensive article develops on the subject, which hasn't happened yet. I wouldn't want that decision to be made here.EchoVanguardZ (talk)05:05, 15 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I don't mind listing stubs at vital, I'm specifically declining to support this one while it's a stub. We could easily add things likeArt of the Americas (even though that article doesn't exist) instead of what's currently listed, or replace Asian art withArt of East Asia,Art of South Asia, andArt of West Asia. I'm not convinced that art from across Asia has enough connections to make itinherently worthy of VA status.EchoVanguardZ (talk)19:29, 15 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
That article (history of...) is a mess, as it contains a lot of content that belongs in the main 'Asian art' article (as they are not about history). It became de facto dumping ground for 'asian art' content due to redirect pointing there. I think we should not list a badly conceptualized article, but the correct one, and just wait for the content to migrate.Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here03:57, 16 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I've asked you already to explain the claim that "it contains a lot of content that belongs in the main 'Asian art' article (as they are not about history)". Which bits? Typically you prefer these extravagant procedural devices. The community decided 10 years ago in awell-attended move discussion in 2016 thatHistory of Asian art should be the name of the main article, which you have just ignored.Johnbod (talk)11:52, 14 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Recently we discovered a gap in the form of Culture of Fooland articles, and above we are adding a number. Another one seems to be related to the field of education. (And I have a feeling it's just a tip of the iceberg). Anyway, I think we have too many higher education institutions listed (Wikipedia:Vital articles/Level/5/Society and social sciences/Culture#Educational institutions is way too bloated, with ~200 entries). I think we should try to cut it to let's say a 100, and use the freed up 100 spots to add a dozen or two, or even three, overviews of education by country and region, just like above we are adding the culture overviews. I mean, if we addculture of the United States, for example, why noteducation in the United States orhigher education in the United States? IMHO such overviews are much more vital than entries on individual institutions (some of which are just companies), and many of which have little impact or recognizability outside its small region (sometimes, province, not even a country) and educators/scholars (heck, I am an educator and researcher, and I don't recognize most of the universities we list). For now, my adds are similar to the culture adds, which is also similar to the list of countries listed at V3, but with a second take on which countries have multiple tertiary institutions listed at V5. I will make comments in various sections above for the adds. Feel free to propose others. Removals (which can be considered swap should follow soon, feel free to help gut the listed units from 200 to 100 or less :) --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here12:46, 17 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Articles of this type help a lot at representing lower level education, which is critical even if the specific institutions are less prestigious.ALittleClass (talk)11:00, 17 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Nay. Not a fan of the "____ in <country>" articles. It opens the door for inclusion of WAY to many. As I've stated elsewhere, I can't make a case that doesn't invoke arguments that at least rhyme with nationalistic or supremicist arguments that defends having some countries listed, and not others.GeogSage (⚔Chat?⚔)02:45, 11 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I think this category of articles is only necessary for the biggest countries, it's overkill to have 2 education articles for each country.ALittleClass (talk)11:00, 17 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

The purge of universities that Piotrus talked about isn't happening yet, and without such a purge, all these nominations, along with my proposal to move websites from Technology to Culture, will take the Culture subpage far over quota.Lophotrochozoa (talk)15:01, 23 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

I can't say I know much of anything about Jainism, but this Jain monk seems more vital than one of his works.Kundakunda, the monk has 35 daily views and 10 languages, compared to 5 daily views and 4 languages forPravachanasara5, the text. The text doesn't have many views in other languages either, and in Hindi it's a 3-sentence stub.
Niten Ichi-ryū is the JapaneseKo-ryū (ancient school) that transmits the sword style created byMiyamoto Musashi4. The style is heavily influenced by his bookThe Book of Five Rings5. Historically, this is a fairly big deal in Japan, and has influence on some of their modern pop culture media.
It has long been closed, but back then, it was a pioneer of the five-and-dime business and was among the most successful retail companies back in the 20th century, having sold products internationally from store chains.
It's a balancing act, IMO. In many cases, it makes much more sense to list an ethnicity than a region. In the African region articles you can see a lot of bare-boned proposed articles, whereas the appropriate ethnicity articles have much more information and indeed appear to cover a much more cohesive topic.J947 ‡edits06:52, 19 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
List of contemporary ethnic groups is pretty extensive. If we add one, I'd say we need to add all of them, with some minor exceptions. Failing an all or nothing approach to ethnicities would open the door for accusations of encouraging literal supremacy (How can we say one ethnic group is vital, but not another?).GeogSage (⚔Chat?⚔)23:45, 31 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Military concepts are an important part of our society, for better or worse. We include 113 under the section "War and military," which for something as important as war and military seems like a dramatic under representation. These are all fairly basic concepts, and if you don't know what they are just check the article. These have had impacts on popular culture, the civilian lexicon, and influenced history pretty profoundly.

Admittedly might be a bit more of a literary concept then real life but for example:Kijong-dong in North Korea. You can see it used in discussion periodically, often changed to "Potemkin Military" or "Potemkin Army", for example,Conclusion: A Potemkin ArmyRussia's Potemkin Army. Essentially, making it look like you have a big functional army when it is really a shell for display purposes only. Put it last because conceptually wasn't sure it belonged.GeogSage (⚔Chat?⚔)18:22, 21 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Mandaeism5 is a VA5 religion currently has 8 subsection articles. I don't dispute it's vitality, but there's currently estimated to be around 60,000 and 70,000 members, so I do think it's been a bit overcovered, especially when comparing it toHaitian Vodou4, which is VA4 but currently has no subsection.

Both are no longer used, but were staples of Early modern history and were pioneering currencies of modernGlobalization3. The Spanish dollar was the world's first trading/reserve currency, and many modern currencies such as the U.S. dollar, Japanese yen and Chinese yuan are based (in some form or another) on the Spanish dollar. The Dutch guilder served as the world's reserve currency for over 100 years and complimented the unprecedented domination of theDutch East India Company4. Under Subcultures. The meaning of the capital D in "d/Deaf". Currently, nothing in this section pertains to anything that might be thought of as a "disability". This would be the most important such one because of how isolated it can be from the mainstream, even down to having separate schools and languages.

Technically just a title to refer to a god, but it is often to refer toHadad (choosing Baal because that article has more interwikis). Went through literal demonization whenYahweh became the sole God for the Jews, and now he's viewed as a demon namedBeelzebub. Rated high in a lot of WikiProjects.
Everyone can agree that this article is sufficiently broad enough to be included, so the main possible concern is that the article must self-destruct by being too broad or otherwise poorly defined (hence, whyEverything5 is only VA5 despite its impressive scope). But this is not the case here, as the article specifically collects perspectives over history about how humans are psychologically/spiritually, apart from the subjective influences of a specific culture.
The practice of aborting a specific gender, almost always a female fetus. It's estimated that there are now tens of millions of "missing women" due to this practice[2], especially in eastern countries like India and China, and this has had wide societal ramifications.
"The self-control that is gained by requiring that rules or orders be obeyed, and the ability to keep working at something that is difficult". This is something that is admired and valued by a large chunk of people globally, it's arguably the main thing that impacts how successful your life is. There's a huge swath of media and industries/services that are designed to help people improve this trait.
Refers to the strategy used by people to gain or maintain power by dividing the populous (so that they don't form a cohesive singular group that rebels, for example).
Category:Racism by country lists 44 pages and 89 subcategories. I don't much care for the "______ ofcountry" articles as is, because every time we include another set we open the door for adding the articles for EVERY country to the list. The three examples chosen seem a bit random as well. We could includeRacism in Russia,Racism in France, andRacism in the United Kingdom if we're listing out the UN Security council, but throwing Germany into the mix opens the door for literally every other country.GeogSage (⚔Chat?⚔)03:58, 27 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

TheKhoekhoe people, along with theSan people4, are considered the earliest inhabitants of Southern Africa and are genetically distinct from other human populations. They contrast with most of southern and central Africa which is inhabited byBantu peoples4. Unlike the Bantu groups (such asZulu people4,Xhosa people, andTswana people) who were traditionally farmers, the Khoekhoe were traditionally herders and the San were hunter-gatherers. (Maybe they still are today, I'm not sure). I considered proposingKhoisan instead, which comprises bothKhoekhoe andSan people4, but some of what I've read suggests the differences between these two groups are larger than their similarities. I noticed thatKhoisan languages4 is also at level 4.
This article is linked multiple times from hugely important articles likeHuman1 andCulture2, and it's easy to see why. This is just one of the main subjects that comes up from an anthropological perspective. (also note that this article is in need of immediate improvement)
Inspired by BlueVestMan's proposals for record labels, I think we should include film studios to the same extent. Here are some important studios that we lack for the moment. Not all of them need to be added, but I'd like to have a scale of different kinds of proposals so we can have a comprehensive discussion of what should be considered vital. ChatGPT helped me choose some of these, like I don't know much of anything about Bollywood, which is a very important film market globally.
A fairly uncontroversial add. Currently owns eight of the top ten highest-grossing films of all time worldwide, and several of the highest-grossing film franchises of all time. We already list the parent company The Walt Disney Company at Level 4, and the subsidiaries 20th Century Studios and Pixar at Level 5.
Another uncontroversial add. Walt Disney Studios and Sony Pictures are the only two studios that we don't list from the"Big Five" film studios. I think it should be included, if we addedSony's music division at Level 5.
The articles states that "It is one of the leading film studios in the world, and was one of the so-called "Little Three" among the eight major film studios of Hollywood's Golden Age. Today, it has become the world's third largest major film studio" (under Sony).
Important mini-major studio, that the artice states "has produced or distributed more than ten films with box-office grosses of more than $100 million each." (under Universal)
The most significant Japanese film studio, which the article states "has released the majority of the highest-grossing Japanese films". Currently we only listStudio Ghibli from Japan at level 5.
Another important French studio. Historically important as well, as it is the second oldest studio still active (founded in 1896) and was the world's largest film production company in the early 1900s. Invented the news reel.
Important French media company, and major film financier, which the articles states is "participating in the financing of the vast majority of films produced in France." Their film production branchStudioCanal is along with Gaumont and Pathé one of the major film studios in France.
Significant German film studio, according to the article "one of Europe's largest film production companies, and one of the leading production and distribution companies" in Germany.
German studio that is the oldest large-scale film studio in the world, producing films since 1912. Also, one of Europe's largest film studios in the size of their production lot. Produces German films, and also offers facilities to American feature films.
Very successful British film studio. Produced hit films likeFour Weddings and a Funeral,Bean,Notting Hill and several Coen brothers films. (under Universal)
Another successfull British film studio, which the article states "has produced or co-produced some of the most successful British films of recent years"
Significant South-Korean film studio, which has produced the films of famous directors Park Chan-wook and Bong Joon Ho, including the Academy Award for Best Picture winnerParasite.

"the sale of goods or merchandise to retailers; to industrial, commercial, institutional or other professional business users".Retail3 is defined in the article in contrast to this. As an industry, tens of trillions in USD probably flows globally from this each year.
Also called axiology. It can broadly be defined as the study of values (such as what we should value and individuals and as a society,Ethics2 is sometimes considered a subset of axiology). As an accepted and broad classification of philosophy it could arguably go up to VA3 with articles likeOntology3, I frankly have no idea how this was missed.

One of the tenets of this list is to have a worldwide focus without intrinsic bias, and this extends to languages. Given thatEnglish grammar5 is currently Level 4 (which is still respectable to me, as English is the most spoken language worldwide by a comfortable margin, although not by native speakers). From this, it seems that some other widely-spoken languages can have the articles dedicated to their language at VA5. These proposals comprise the top 5 most spoken languages according toour own list. If this proposal fails, I'll probably nominateEnglish grammar for removal at VA4.

International decentralized animal rights movement which originated in the UK. Their alleged use of violence and later designation as a domestic terrorist group by the United States and the United Kingdom has led to debate among the animal rights movement over the use of violent acts.

These have a big influence on public opinion, the media, and laws passed by government. Related toLobbying5 but still different enough for a vital article.
African slaves brought to Brazil through thetransatlantic slave trade with the most amount ever transported to a single colony (5.5 million) and their descendants. Their culture has widely influenced the larger Brazilian pop culture.
There's no rule against hypothetical concepts being listed here, and as long as there isn't this should 100% be listed, avoiding this is one of the main goals of theUnited Nations3, it was a big fear of theCold War3, it's in all kinds of fiction, fromDr. Strangelove4 toFallout (franchise)5, I think just about everybody has thought of this at some point.
We already listWorld war5 which has a WW3 section. I think WW3 is too disparate and speculative as a subject to include by itself, especially now that VA5 as a whole has hit its 50K quota (as of the last count update over a month ago).--LaukkuTheGreit (Talk•Contribs)06:36, 18 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
The international movement to boycott and support international sanctions against Israel, is prominent and a topic of political discussion worldwide, the only real comparison to which is of the boycotts/sanctions against apartheid South Africa (of which there isn't a single unified article on to list at VA5)
This seems like recentism, but I'm not fully opposed to the addition of it since this war is one of the most important geopolitical events of the decade.-1ctinus📝🗨01:39, 9 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Rated high-importance by WikiProjects Computer Security and Internet culture. Popular means of activism usually performed by black hat hackers in order to advocate a specific cause.
We listOverseas Chinese5 and several American immigrant and Jewish diasporas, so I think this should be a worthy add. Since modern era, the Indian diaspora spread to East and South Africa, the Caribbean, Southeast Asia, and Oceania, and in more recent years to North America and Europe. Indo-descendants are the largest or second largest ethnic group inFiji,Guyana,Suriname,Trinidad and Tobago, andMauritius.
Two of the largest, most policy-relevant fields in economics. Should be a worthwhile addition now that we allocated more slots to the Politics and economics section.
Due to lots of controversy about LGBTQ issues, it's important to have a good article covering LGBTQ rights around the world. (LGBTQ rights redirects there).
What a fitting time to nominate this (at least where I am). I just had a painful time trying to find a place to move unidentified flying object, which bizarrely was place under science fiction in narrative arts even though that article is almost entirely about the alleged real-life phenomena. The main problem that made it difficult is that we don't have paranormal on here. That seems like a major oversight.
Not having this seems a bit like sysbias. Pretty iconic Japanese building/concept (note: we do not have a parent article for the likely V5-too concept of martial artstraining hall). Anyway, 47 iwkis, 465 dailies. We list 8 armies. Why these? Let's think about it:British Armed Forces,French Armed Forces,French Foreign Legion,Indian Armed Forces,Israel Defense Forces,People's Liberation Army,Russian Armed Forces,United States Armed Forces. Ok, US is important due to geoplitics and history and size, sure. UK, French and Russian have a lot of history, and except the French, still some geopolitical significance. FFL is culturally famous. Chinese is very big, geopolitically signfiicant. That leaves Indian and Isreali. Indian, while being big, is IMHO not important - folks may wary about Chinese Army in the future in case of regional or WWIII conflict, but India's army is regional, nboody worries about it except PAkistan. It also has little history, just like Isreali, which is an important regional force, and in the news, but is it Vital? As such, I'll propose the removal of the last two, as well as two additions which I thinbk are more relevant. TL;DR:/IMHO 1) Indian and Israeli militaries are not very vital 2) instead we should list a German military topic and US Marines. --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here01:41, 11 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]
World's largest volunteer army and second-largest total force, with a lot of regional importance. If we could only keep one between this and the IDF, I'd prefer the latter, but both should stay.QuicoleJR (talk)23:02, 14 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]

First, German military is no less important than French, British or Russian, these were the four major military European powers. The problem is that unlike French (infobox: 26 May 1445) andBritish Armed Forces (infobox: 16th/17th centuries), and evenRussian Armed Forces (infobox: 18th century/1992, infobox), due to the German attempts to break with WWII history,Bundeswehr has only "founded 1955". That said, modern German military,Bundeswehr (59 iwikis, 1,4k views - note, still more views and iwikis than Indian), is arguably not important, just like Indian or Isreali (and arguably, even less so). Importance of German military is historical - it's WWII-era military,Wehrmacht (77 iwikis, 2,2k views) is more viewed/famous. I did considerMilitary history of Germany, but it has just 6 views and pathetic 30 dailies, and we also don't list other military histories of (maybe we should discuss it?). I think that just like French having two articles, we can justify having two German ones. If we keep Indian and Isreali, Bundeswehr should be listed. If we remove them, it doesn't have to. But Wehrmacht should be listed due to its historical and cultural importance. --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here01:41, 11 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]

An outlier in our list of political parties. Armenia is not a very important country, ARF almost never makes it to international news. We don't list any party from many much more important countries (most Europeans, Brazil, South Korea...). Tgere are many more parties with more dailies and iwkis that if we started to list them we would bloat that section (ex. PolishLaw and Justice has nearly 2x wikis and dailies, just a semi-random example I checked). --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here12:43, 14 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Don't get me wrong, I think NGOs are important, and I may propose some additions. But several of the ones we list seem, well, not very vital (low iwikis, dailies and arguably, impact). Update: only one addition proposed; other NGOs I checked have numbers (dailies/wikikis) simialr to the oines I am suggesting removing (I checked CARE, Vision and Caritas). --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here13:05, 14 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]

I do acknowledge the risk of navel gazing, and there may be some bias in iwikis/dailies here, but nonetheless, 178 iwikis, 7k dailies merit inclusion. And let's face it - it's an NGO responsible for running the only non-profit website in the Top 100 most visited websites (and it's in Top 10). Recentism and redundant to Wikipedia already being listed. WMF is mostly known for Wikipedia (I say this as a big Wiktionary fanboy)...-1ctinus📝🗨20:58, 1 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Redundant. Even to the extent this is borderline, adding it is a general unwise idea unless it's very safely the right side of the border. The standard for "our" stuff needs to be 10x stricter than for anything else. Write your outrage clickbait here: "The WMF, which has adorned itself as a 'vital' topic despite (thing you the reader like not being one), said today..." It doesn't matter that the WMF has nothing to do with VA5 and is more generally a known issue with the "Vital" terminology.SnowFire (talk)07:18, 2 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]

MovePuppet state5 from History to here (State structure and administration)
@GeogSage Countries belong to both geography and history. Nothing suprising. But as IP noted, the concept of puppet state is much more in line with politics than geopgraphy (or history). No need to touch (move) entries on individual countries like Poland or USA (if this is what you meant); they are at a different level than the concepts mentioned here.Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here01:55, 23 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@Piotrus I guess categorically, I would prefer the theoretical concepts related to states to be listed along side the actual examples of them. We discuss types of states within geography classes to discuss the real world examples. For example,Nation state would be a theoretical term we would ask students to find examples of. In that case, none really exist, it's an entirely theoretical term misused to describe sovereign states by people who want to sound smart, but the concept and pursuit of it as an ideal have shaped geography and history tremendously.GeogSage (⚔Chat?⚔)03:42, 26 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]
While a shell of its former self, Kodak dominated photography in the 20th century. Founded byGeorge Eastman4. During its peak they controlled almost the entirety of thePhotographic film4 / camera market (~90%), and was among the largest companies. Eastman and his company pretty much invented consumer photography with theBrownie camera. Also invented thedigital camera (though ignored capitalizing it to avoid hurting film sales, which massively backfired).

Continuing#Kneeling and#Add_common_gestures, I checked these on a hunch, and,Facepalm time, we don't list these common concepts (standing and lying down; these could be V4 IMHO). I am not sure they are "gestures", perhaps this is more of a bio/health topic? Either way, this should be vital. Basicially the LGBTQ+ civil rights movement of the 1960s–80s. We already list theStonewall riots5, so there shouldn’t be any issues in listing this either.
Yes, I have taken into account the potential Eurocentrism, but the constant influence anti-fascists in the US have is undeniable, especially with the current Trump admin. Should be no issue adding this as we just addedAnti-fascism5.
I don't think this is an influential group. It's mentioned fairly often by Trump/Republicans, but mostly just as sensationalism and exaggeration. I can't see this as more important thanRSPCA, the world's oldest and largest animal welfare organisation, which is proposed for removal.~2025-38042-63 (talk)22:27, 2 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]
The two major fighting forces in the currentSudanese civil war (2023–present)5: the former is a formerly Sudan-affliatedparamilitary force with current ties to the UAE, while the latter is the military of the Sudanese government.
The conflict is just V5. Unless it makes it to V4, I don't think those regional forces are vital. Such forces come and go, dime a dozen, in many conflicts. I believe this proposal will fills in a category of two very underrepresented categories:Textile3(I am not sure if we even list any specific textile patterns currently) andSoutheast Asia4. We have 117 articles in the clothing section, including many regional clothes likeKilt5 andSari5, but none in Southeast Asia (now that I look at it, I think there's also nothing from Africa either...)
Batik is a form of resist-dyeing, meaning a form of dyeing where you prevent some part of the clothing or fabric from getting dyed (tie-dye is an example of this). This article also has some coverage on a variety of resist-dyeing techniques in places such as Egypt, Nigeria and various places in Asia. But this article mainly focuses on the Javanese tradition of Batik, which has been in existence for over a thousand year. Batik clothing is often considered the national clothing of Indonesia.

The government agencies section right now is a bit weird. It mostly lists government agencies from the US and the UK, which is obviously an example of Western bias. Here's a few nominations to fix that a bit.
Since we have theUnited States Department of Defense5, which is a relatively new institution established in 1947, we can also have the supreme military governing body of China.
The number one fear of Chinese officials. The top anti-corruption body in China that has disciplined literally millions of officials. I'll note that theIndependent Commission Against Corruption (Hong Kong)5, which covers a much smaller jurisdiction, is VA-5 level.
Top political advisory body of China; played a key role in the establishment of the People's Republic of China and the adaptation of its first constitution, and the body is still one of the most important bodies in China.
Since we have so many intelligence agencies from the English-speaking world, maybe we can have China's national police agency too? Keep in mind that unlike theFederal Bureau of Investigation5, which handles crime at the federal level, MPS covers nearly all police in China (imagine if FBI had jurisdiction over all the local police and sheriffs).
Very influential organization in the Chinese system. AsRichard McGregoronce described, a US equivalent would "oversee the appointments of US state governors and their deputies; the mayors of big cities; heads of federal regulatory agencies; the chief executives of General Electric, ExxonMobil, Walmart and 50-odd of the remaining largest companies; justices on the Supreme Court; the editors of The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal and The Washington Post, the bosses of the television networks and cable stations, the presidents of Yale and Harvard and other big universities and the heads of think-tanks such as the Brookings Institution and The Heritage Foundation".
From my brief reading, ASIS doesn't seem to have been that much of an involver in groundbreaking espionage activities. Meanwhile GRU is (in)famous enough to be referred by its abbreviation. We already have six (!) other intelligence organizations from other English-speaking countries; I think the Australian one can go. Also I'm confused why ASIS is listed here when even theParliament of Australia or theAustralian Defence Force isn't?
Yeah, thats why is weak oppose. If we have stuff like politics of sweden we should have politcs of Turkey. But honestly i think this a can of worms that shouldnt have been opened.Ipedecha (talk)18:42, 13 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]
One of the biggest phone companies in the world. Also a major manufacturer of other consumer electronics and software, and is now rapidly increasing its sales of electric vehicles.
I feel like we're gonna see the addition of many more Chinese car manufacturers here in the coming years. We can begin with Geely, one of the largest car manufacturers in China. Geely sold 3.34 million cars last year, and is expected to sell even more this year.
Primordial sea goddess and mother to all monsters in Mesopotamia mythology. Admittedly her status as a dragon is kind of questionable, but regardless I still think she should be on here. Also appears in Dungeon and Dragons.
Dwarf-turned-dragon in Germanic mythology who later gets killed by Sigurd. Appears in Wagner's Der Ring des Nibelungen and serves as the inspiration for Smaug and Gollum.
We have listed too many intelligence agencies from English-speaking countries. Why not remove some of them and replace them with concepts related to intelligence itself? In my opinion, the most renowned intelligence agencies in the UK are MI5 and MI6, while GCHQ is slightly less prominent. Therefore, I think we could exchange GCHQ for its area of responsibility, signals intelligence, and replace GCHQ with it.
Strongly oppose removal. One of the most important U.S. government agencies, with almost trillion-dollar annual spending. I'd rather add more government bodies from other countries than remove these (particularly China's, since they have a large military as well).Shocksingularity (talk)21:57, 15 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]
By the same logic, the United States Department of the Treasury exerts less influence on the global economy than the Federal Reserve; what makes it more deserving of a Level 5 slot thanHM Treasury or theNational Development and Reform Commission? I believe the place should go to the broader concept of “Government spending,” which is far more consequential.
The Works Progress Administration was merely one of the major achievements of the New Deal. As a defunct official agency, its significance does not reach that of entities such as theSturmabteilung, theGrand Council of Fascism, or theMinistry of International Trade and Industry, which are not categorized under significance level 5. In comparison, the concept ofFull employment holds greater importance.
A minor department with only 3 interwikis, its importance is far less than one of its areas of responsibility—Motor vehicle registration. In contrast, theDriver's license handled by this department is much more important and has 72 interwikis.
