Susie Hodge FRSA MA is a British author, art historian, and lecturer who has written more than 150 books on art, art history, and related subjects. Her works have been published by major houses including Thames & Hudson, Tate Publishing, Laurence King, Frances Lincoln, Greenfinch, and White Lion Publishing. Hodge's books have won awards, been bestsellers, and been selected in national press "books of the year" lists. She has appeared in international media including CNN, Channel 5’sGreat Paintings of the World, Studio 10 Australia, and WNYC, and has given talks at major cultural institutions including the Edinburgh International Book Festival, Bath Literary Festival, the Royal Academy, Dallas Museum of Art, and PUCRS in Brazil.

Career

Hodge earned an MA from the University of London. She began her career as a copywriter at Saatchi & Saatchi and J. Walter Thompson before becoming a full-time author. Alongside writing, she has worked as a lecturer, painter, and commissioned artist.

Her books cover topics such as the history of art, architecture, drawing techniques, and artistic movements. Notable titles includeWhy Your Five Year Old Could Not Have Done That (Thames & Hudson, 2012), selected by several newspapers as one of the best art books of the year;Why is Art Full of Naked People? (Thames & Hudson, 2016), winner of multiple awards;How to Survive Modern Art (Tate Publishing, 2012), a bestseller for several years; andThe Short Story of Art (Laurence King, 2017). Other works includeElements of Art,Art in Detail, andThe Short Story of Architecture.

Hodge has contributed articles and given interviews for national and international media, includingThe Independent,Daily Art Magazine,BBC, CNN, and WNYC. She has spoken at literary festivals, universities, and museums in the UK and abroad.
