Wad is an oldmining term for any blackmanganeseoxide orhydroxide mineral-rich rock in the oxidized zone of variousore deposits. Typically closely associated with variousiron oxides. Specific mineral varieties includepyrolusite,lithiophorite,nsutite,takanelite andvernadite.[1] Wad can be considered to be the manganese equivalent to the ironmineraloidlimonite.
