V. Philips Long, also known asPhil Long, is an AmericanOld Testament scholar.
Long has degrees fromWheaton College,Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary, and theUniversity of Cambridge. He taught atCovenant Theological Seminary and theFreie Theologische Akademie in Germany before becoming Professor of Old Testament atRegent College.[1]
Long served on the translation teams for theESV[2] andNLT.[3] He is an ordainedteaching elder in thePresbyterian Church in America.[1]
Long specializes in study relating to thehistoricity of the Bible. According toC. Hassell Bullock, Long's 1994 bookThe Art of Biblical History "represents a long stride in the direction of open and honest grappling" with the issues of biblical history.[4]
