RegardingNippon Steel

[edit]

The current company was a merger-of-equals between NSC and Sumitomo Metal that created a new company under the combined name with the stock symbol carrying over from the original NSC. The previous incarnation of NSC was a separate company that was ultimately dissolved and integrated into NS&SM when the merger happened. For more information, see NSC's page on theJapanese Wikipedia.VenezuelanSpongeBobFan2004 (talk)21:15, 3 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@VenezuelanSpongeBobFan2004: That may be the case. However, based on how it is currently written, the article seems to center around the history of both the Nippon Steel originating in 1970 and the current version of said company. Hence why I have included information from both companies in the infobox.Emiya1980 (talk)21:27, 3 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@VenezuelanSpongeBobFan2004: With regards to recent edits, Yawata Iron & Steel was founded in 1950. Not Nippon Steel Corporation.Emiya1980 (talk)03:40, 4 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
but perYawata Iron & Steel's page on the Japanese Wikipedia, the company itself was founded in 1950 is the company that is currently Nippon Steel. The original NSC merger was structured with Yawata Iron & Steel merging with Fuji Iron & Steel with the former rebranding itself. This is causing a lot of confusion, is there any way to figure this out?VenezuelanSpongeBobFan2004 (talk)04:11, 4 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Contrary to what the Wikipedia page says, the company was never known as Nippon Steel until 2019. In the 1970 merger which supposedly first gave rise to the first incarnation of "Nippon Steel", the name it had was "New Japan Steel". Since most of the article is currently devoted towards the company's tenure as "New Japan Steel", I think the 1970 merger should be listed as the founding date for now. Once the article has expanded enough to include at least as much about the company during its tenure as "Nippon Steel", then it's probably high time to split the article into two pages (one on "New Japan Steel", the other on "Nippon Steel").Emiya1980 (talk)04:21, 4 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
This might be a great idea to split the pages into three to serve as English counterparts for the pages for Yawata Iron & Steel, NSC and Nippon Steel on the Japanese Wikipedia...VenezuelanSpongeBobFan2004 (talk)04:32, 4 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Perhaps, I would submit it for discussion on the talk page before taking action.Emiya1980 (talk)04:43, 4 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
thanks for the advice, hope this decision helps...VenezuelanSpongeBobFan2004 (talk)04:59, 4 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Discussions

[edit]

Hi Emiya, please don't reopen that discussion again. The previous close wasn't wrong, per se, because the standard time to close is seven days, and any additional time has to be placed via relist. If you contact the closer, you may be able to request a relist, and they'll probably give it to you. Just ask them and let them do their thing.Ladtrack (talk)04:05, 1 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]

I've already done so.[1]Emiya1980 (talk)04:57, 1 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@Ladtrack: I was refused. Now what?Emiya1980 (talk)00:32, 2 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Well, you've got a couple options. One is to submit amove review, saying that you felt that a closure was premature and the discussion should be relisted. They may or may not give it to you, but if you really want this discussion reopened, that's the way to do it. The other option is to just wait a month or two and do another request. That option probably has a higher chance of success, especially if you include all the stuff you told me in the request.Ladtrack (talk)00:40, 2 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]
