    FAQ

    [edit]
    Referencing 1
    [edit]

In order to establish notability for the purposes of Wikipedia, articles need to include references that demonstrate sustained non-trivial coverage inreliable sources that are independent of the subject. For guidance on referencing for Wikipedia, seeHelp:Referencing for beginners. If you need additional help, feel free to ask here or at mytalk page.

    Referencing 2
    [edit]
There are multiple ways to include references in an article, but probably the easiest and most common is to use:<ref>REFERENCE HERE</ref>. So for example when you type this:
Johnny told the devil "you son of a gun, I'm the best there's ever been."<ref>The Devil went down to Georgia. (1979) Charlie Daniels. ''Epic Records''.</ref>
    What you get is this:

Johnny told the devil "you son of a gun, I'm the best there's ever been."[1]

    References

    1. ^The Devil went down to Georgia. (1979) Charlie Daniels.Epic Records.
Also, you may want to look over guidance atHelp:Referencing for beginners.
    Ref name
    [edit]
Johnny told the devil "you son of a gun, I'm the best there's ever been."<ref>The Devil went down to Georgia. (1979) Charlie Daniels. ''Epic Records''.</ref> They engaged in a fiddle playing contest which Johnny Won.<ref>The Devil went down to Georgia. (1979) Charlie Daniels. ''Epic Records''.</ref> The story was later told in a popular song by Charlie Daniels.<ref>The Devil went down to Georgia. (1979) Charlie Daniels. ''Epic Records''.</ref>

    Which gives you this:

Johnny told the devil "you son of a gun, I'm the best there's ever been."[1] They engaged in a fiddle playing contest which Johnny Won.[2] The story was later told in a popular song by Charlie Daniels.[3]

    References

    1. ^The Devil went down to Georgia. (1979) Charlie Daniels.Epic Records.
    2. ^The Devil went down to Georgia. (1979) Charlie Daniels.Epic Records.
    3. ^The Devil went down to Georgia. (1979) Charlie Daniels.Epic Records.

But instead of repeating the reference, youname it like this, and just repeat the name with a "/":

Johnny told the devil "you son of a gun, I'm the best there's ever been."<ref name="Daniels">The Devil went down to Georgia. (1979) Charlie Daniels. ''Epic Records''.</ref> They engaged in a fiddle playing contest which Johnny Won.<ref name="Daniels"/> The story was later told in a popular song by Charlie Daniels.<ref name="Daniels"/>

    Which gives you this:

Johnny told the devil "you son of a gun, I'm the best there's ever been."[1] They engaged in a fiddle playing contest which Johnny Won.[1] The story was later told in a popular song by Charlie Daniels.[1]

    Funny...ish

    [edit]
An editor says that something's wrong with this page. That editor can't be troubled to fix it, but can sleep easy knowing that they stuck on a tag.
Please allow this tag to languish indefinitely at the top of the page, since nobody knows exactly why it's there.
This user page may meet Wikipedia's criteria for speedy deletion as a user page or subpage of a user thatdoes not exist. This includes userpages for users who are mathematical or logical constructs whichexist purely as the result of the mental activity, and users whocannot justifiably be said to exist in themselves, but only as perceptual phenomena or sensory stimuli. However, thisdoes not include users who havebeen changed by small bits over time but who still retain their essential elements, nor to users who do in fact exist, but do soin a universe that is itself an illusion.

This page may or may not have been last edited by GreenMeansGo at 00:40 UTC (4 months ago), or may be the illusory creation of anevil demon of the utmost power and cunning who has employed all his energies in order to deceive you.

This message contains important information about a fairly exceptionally complex and esoteric set of special rules on Wikipedia. It doesnot imply any misconduct regarding your own contributions to date, which we feel the need to point out explicitly, because everything else about this template screams exactly that.

    Please carefully read this information:

TheArbitration Committee has authorizeddiscretionary sanctions related to a fairly arbitrary set of topics. The Committee's decision is probably not remotely intelligible to new users, of the type who would need a notification such as this, so we've opted to omit the link altogether moving forward.

Discretionary sanctions is a system of conduct regulation designed to corral disruption on controversial topics toits very own special venue, with special rules regarding how we enforce our special rules, whichmust be followed in exquisite lawyerly detail, despiteany rumor to the contrary. This meansuninvolved administrators can unilaterally impose comparatively arbitrary sanctions for conduct that would often not be sanctionable in an open community discussion. These should normally be immediately appealed at theAdministrators' Noticeboard, in a discussion that will waste a maximum amount of community time, and almost certainly result in no consensus.

This message is a compulsory notification as part of the above mentioned special rules that must be unflinchingly adhered to. Please do not bother to familiarize yourself with the discretionary sanctions system, because if we're being completely honest, half the time some of our most experienced editors, including sitting and former committee members, don't themselves perfectly agree on what they mean and how they should be enforced.

This user reserves the right to be occasionally and egregiously silly.
