    EF5

    [edit]
Hi, I'mEF5. If you've seen the movieTwister you should already know what my username means, but if you don't, it's the highest damage rating a tornado can receive on theEnhanced Fujita scale.

    • "They call F5 tornadoes the "finger of God"; few have stared one in the face and survived." -Bill Paxton
    • "He said people shouldn’t be afraid to propose ideas. You don’t want to be so scared that you don’t propose something you believe in." -Roger Wakimoto onTed Fujita
    • "It's prom night. A lot of the high school girls worry about their hair. I've never had to worry about that." -James Spann
    • "A severe thunderstorm with goofball size hail and wind gusts to 60 mph will continue to track across northwest Tennessee over the next hour." -National Weather Service office inMemphis

    Super Outbreak

    [edit]
TheApril 27, 2011 "Super Outbreak" of tornadoes has always particularly interested me. In layman's terms, imagine 337 tornado warnings within a 24-hour period, many of which were accompanied by deadly tornadoes. Not a great day.

    Severe weather events

    [edit]
I have the nerdy hobby of tracking severe weather with other enthusiasts as it happens. A selection of events I've tracked, not including hurricanes:
    DateTypeSummary
    April 3, 2024DerechoBasically just a giant derecho.
    April 27, 2024Tornado outbreakOklahoma madness.
May 21, 2024TornadoArguably an EF5 (but not, in my opinion).
March 14, 2025Tornado outbreak"It's April 27, 2011 all over again!" Was out-of-town at the time.
    March 15, 2025
April 2, 2025Tornado outbreakMeh, not really memorable. Was inPuerto Rico at the time.
    May 16, 2025Tornado outbreakIncluded theNancy-London EF4.
May 18, 2025Tornado outbreakSaw the Grinnell EF3 but was asleep at the time of the Greensburg, Kansas tornado (notthe 2007 EF5, which I've ironically written extensively about).
June 20, 2025Tornado outbreak and derechoSaw the EF3, but missedthe EF5! Was inCalifornia at the time (noticing a trend yet?).
July 4, 2025FloodTexas can flood, surprisingly.

    "Slabbed" homes

    [edit]

Homes swept to their foundations ("slabs") are the tell-tale indicator of a violent (EF4+) tornado.

    Scouring

    [edit]

Ripping up of the ground in chunks. Not as impressive as it looks at first glance.

    EF5-rated damage

    [edit]

    Self-explanatory.
