quadratic gravity

[edit]

I noticeQuadratic gravity (QQG) is in the string theory section of this template. But from what I can tell, it's a modification of classical GR that makes a quantized version renormalizeable. That's based on the Quanta Magazine article that I found it through. So I think it might be in the wrong part of the template, or alternatively, that there's a connection between QQG and string theory that should be described in the QQG article. I'm not knowledgeable about this stuff enough to mess with the article or the template myself, but maybe someone can look into it.~2025-35496-27 (talk)02:41, 22 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]

I agree that this is not a string theory. For example, this paper
  • Alvarez‐Gaume, L., Kehagias, A., Kounnas, C., Lüst, D., & Riotto, A. (2016). Aspects of quadratic gravity. Fortschritte der Physik, 64(2-3), 176-189.
saysFinally, we discuss how quadratic actions may be obtained from a fundamental theory like string- or M theory.
However, I don't think Quadratic gravity is in fact a quantum theory. The same source says
  • We have studied here quadratic curvature gravity theories. Such theories have attracted considerable attention, among others things, due to their renormalization properties. In particular, they offer the interesting possibility of yielding a well defined quantum theory, which in addition, reduces to general relativity at long distances.
