Laxative/diuretic
Coffee is also a powerful stimulant for peristalsis and is sometimes considered to prevent constipation; it is also a diuretic. However, coffee can also cause loose bowel movements.

Constipation
Due to its diuretic effect, coffee use can lead to dehydration in some individuals, and as a result, contribute to constipation

these are both on the coffee health page...i do not understand. — Unsigned comment from65.175.1.167, 09:35, January 16, 2007

This comment may be better addressed in the talk page on the article oncoffee and health. Thanks! —ArkansasTraveler16:32, 16 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I have added several edits to the coffee page and painstakingly provided citations for other folks' work that were requested in the "Economics" section as well. I submit it, it shows up, and then a few days later, when I came back to add more it was gone. I redid the work thinking perhaps I had not submitted it properly and it showed up then but now, a week later, all I added is gone. Am I missing something here?? Would appreciate someone enlightening me.XDPG03:13, 2 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Espresso machine

Good day. I added "Espresso machine" to the "Coffee Preparation" group, right after "Espresso"

Kona

[edit]

Kona coffee is an origin, not a "variety" in the botanical sense. But it seems to be the only origin term that is not a whole "country"? So not sure what to do. Ideally I suppose there could be a new article onCoffee production in the United States of America which might just talk about Hawaiian coffee history, since I do not think any other state grows it.W Nowicki (talk)03:45, 27 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not sure what the problem is. What are you proposing to change?Viriditas (talk)03:59, 30 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
As noted above, an article on the history and current state of all Hawaiian coffee probably needs to be written some day, and a "USA" link can go to it from this template. I am not a Coffee expert (just drink it!) but didKona Coffee Living History Farm which got me thinking about it. The industry started in other areas and islands, and is starting to come back. Then also add some text in theCoffee varieties making clear the distinction between actual cultivar names and origin terms.W Nowicki (talk)16:59, 30 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Could you copy this to the WPHawaii project talk page? This sounds like a worthy task.Viriditas (talk)00:49, 1 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Brazil

[edit]

Brazil shouldn't be in the list of coffee producing countries in the template?? It's the biggest producer...Rafael Calsaverini (talk)16:40, 13 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I’ve added it – thanks!
Amazingly, as of this writing, Brazil and Ethiopia do not have their own coffee pages!

Species and varieties

[edit]

The species are right (Arabica, Robusta and Liberica), but the varieties are not.

Varieties are borbon, SL28, pacas, pacamara, maragogype, caturra, etc

Kenya AA is a quality grade of Kenya. Kona and JBM are regions were coffee is grown. Kopi Luwak is a scam/gimmick in coffee. Single-origin just means that the coffee is from the same farm or region.PCristiani (talk)03:54, 20 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
