Tan Prefecture (Hunan)

Historical administrative division in Hunan, China

Tanzhou orTan Prefecture (潭州) was azhou (prefecture) inimperial China centering on modernChangsha,Hunan,China. In theYuan dynasty it was known asTanzhou Route (潭州路) and in theMing dynasty asTanzhou Fu (潭州府). It existed (intermittently) from 589 to 1372.
