Is cut scene one or two words. I've only seen it as two words or with a hyphen (cut-scene).GfloresTalk02:22, 28 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I would recommend someone to put a source website in Wikipedia's Cutscene information where every visitor would able to watch video game's cutscenes.

Weren't the first video game cutscenes found in 1979's Pac-Man? They weren't very sophisticated, but they seem to meet all the requirements.Asat05:36, 10 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Ron Gilbert on the origin of cutscenes

[edit]

[1]:

If you don't blink, you also see the worlds first cut-scene. It's a cut to Sandy and Dr. Fred in his lab. I named them "cut-scenes" (it was also the name of the SCUMM command) because they literally cut away from the action. Games before Maniac Mansion had non-interactive scenes that would play between levels or after a big event, but the ones in Maniac Mansion are different. They cut away. get it? cut-scene. Oh, how I can amuse myself.

Self-amusement aside, I consider the way Maniac Mansion did cut-scenes to be one of the biggest mistakes of the game. In later games like Monkey Island, the cut-scenes happen only in response to an action by the player. They were no longer tied to an arbitrary timer.

Fair use rationale for Image:Rapic.jpg

[edit]

Image:Rapic.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used underfair use but there is noexplanation or rationale as to why its use inthis Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to theboilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent withfair use.

Please go tothe image description page and edit it to include afair use rationale. Using one of the templates atWikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described oncriteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at theMedia copyright questions page. Thank you.

First QTE and pre-rendered cutscenes?

[edit]

Just wanted to mention that Die Hard Arcade had quick time events before Shenmue. I'm not sure which was the first game to have pre-rendered cutscenes, but it definitely wasn't Final Fantasy 7. The phrasing may make it read that way even though I believe the intent was to mention that it was the firstFinal Fantasy with pre-rendered scenes.—Precedingunsigned comment added by67.125.20.147 (talk)16:06, 8 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

why so called

[edit]

Why is it called "Cut-scene" - what's being cut ?86.175.241.2 (talk)18:38, 29 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

It's movie jargon. Theycut away from the gameplay to show you another scene. So it's a scripted scene that interrupts the usually continuous game play. — trlkly10:55, 17 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I would like more on the etymology of the term 'cutscene' in the article. It's a well established term within the videogame community, but while talking with my brother and a friend recently we threw the term "cutscene" back and fourth and our friend (a non-game) had no idea what we were talking about. While the 'cutaway' etymology is sound, it would be nice if there were any articles citing the first use of the term. The Maniac Mansion quote above is interesting and could be the source, if true.82.0.16.12 (talk)20:23, 16 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]
