Thesthène (French:[stɛn]; symbolsn), sometimes spelled (or misspelled)sthéne[1] orsthene[2] (fromAncient Greek:σθένος,romanizedsthénos,lit.'force'[3]), is an obsolete unit offorce orthrust in themetre–tonne–second system of units (mts) introduced in France in 1919.[4] When proposed by theBritish Association in 1876, it was called thefunal, but the name was changed by 1914.[1] The mts system was abandoned in favour of themks system and has now been superseded by theInternational System of Units.[2]
