Sally Johnston (bornInvercargill,New Zealand) is a New Zealand competitivesport shooter. She started shooting in 1983 with her first international competition in 1995 at theOceania Championships in Auckland. Johnston placed eighth in the50m rifle three positions and ninth in the10m air rifle. In 1997, she beat her personal bests in all three events at theOceania Championships inAdelaide where she placed fourth in the50m rifle prone, tenth in the10m air rifle and eleventh in50m rifle three positions event.[1]
At the1998 Commonwealth Games inKuala Lumpur, Johnston won the bronze medal in thewomen's 50m prone event. At the2006 Commonwealth Games inMelbourne she finished fifth and at the2010 Commonwealth Games she finished seventh.[2]
She won the gold medal in the same event at the2014 Commonwealth Games inGlasgow, winning by 0.6 of a point.[3] She shot a games record of 620.7 to narrowly beatSouth Africa'sEsmari van Reenen.[2]
Since 2007, Johnston has trained and competed whilst working full-time at theMinistry for Primary Industries inWellington.[citation needed] She has worked in the role of Manager for Food and Beverage since 2014.[citation needed]
