Pavese is a dialect ofWestern Lombard language spoken inprovince of Pavia (Lombardy). In Pavese, differently from most ofWestern Lombard dialects, the "z" (ts ordz) is transformed into "s".
In the past, before the influence ofMilanese, Pavese was more similar toEmiliano-Romagnolo language. InLomellina aPiedmontese-influenced dialect is spoken; in theOltrepò Pavese fullyWestern Lombard dialects (like that ofBobbio) orEmilian–Romagnol-influenced dialects (like that ofBroni) are spoken; the southern part of theprovince of Pavia speaksLigurian-influenced dialects.
Pavese is the language ofI Fiö dla Nebia andQuèi Ad La Barcéla, two popular musical groups.
