PLOS Computational Biology is a monthlypeer-reviewedopen accessscientific journal coveringcomputational biology. It was established in 2005 by thePublic Library of Science in association with theInternational Society for Computational Biology (ISCB) in the same format as the previously establishedPLOS Biology andPLOS Medicine. The foundingeditor-in-chief wasPhilip Bourne and the current ones are Feilim Mac Gabhann and Jason Papin.[1]
The journal publishes both original research and review articles. All articles areopen access and licensed under theCreative Commons Attribution License.[2]
Since its inception, the journal has published theTen Simple Rules series of practical guides,[3][4][5] which has subsequently become one of the journal's most read article series.[6]
TheTen Simple Rules series then led to theQuick Tips collection, whose articles contain recommendations on computational practices and methods,[7][8] such asdimensionality reduction[9] for example.
In 2012, it launched theTopic Page review format, which dual-publishes peer-reviewed articles both in the journal and on Wikipedia.[10][11] It was the first publication of its kind to publish in this way.[12][13]
