Born inEngland, Hamblin ran for theDorchester Athletics Club before moving to New Zealand in 2006. She gainedNew Zealand citizenship in 2009.[1] In 2010, Hamblin became the New Zealand record holder in the 1500 metres and won the silver medal in both the 800 and 1500 metres at the2010 Commonwealth Games inDelhi.[2]

At the2016 Summer Olympics inRio de Janeiro, she received considerable international media attention following an incident during the5000m heat in which both she and AmericanAbbey D'Agostino fell. The two women helped each other finish the race and were allowed to compete in the final. As D'Agostino had suffered a tornanterior cruciate ligament and meniscus she was unable to participate further. Hamblin's injuries were less serious and she was able to compete in the final but finished last. Both athletes were praised for their sportsmanship and "Olympic spirit",[3] and were subsequently awarded the Rio 2016 Fair Play Award by theInternational Fair Play Committee.[4][5]
