TheNiagara Gazette, also referred to asThe Gazette, is a morningdaily newspaper published inNiagara Falls, New York, United States, which covers several parts ofNiagara County, including the Town ofNiagara, and the City ofNiagara Falls.

The Gazette was founded in 1854 as theNiagara Falls Gazette.[2]

The Gazette was owned byGannett from 1954 to 1997. Gannett was formed in 1923 byFrank Gannett, a notedconservative,[3] inRochester, New York as an outgrowth of a newspaper business he had begun inElmira, New York in 1906.[4]

In a 1996 deal, that closed in 1997, Gannett acquired Buffalo'sWGRZ.[5] Due toU.S. Federal Communications Commission regulations, Gannett was required to sell the paper.[5] It was bought byCommunity Newspaper Holdings Inc., along with other area newspapers such as theLockport Union-Sun & Journal and the formerTonawanda News.[6]
